How to clone Amundsen navigation card to larger capacity SD card

Featured Replies

I've been looking for Mac software to do this. The most promising was a program from 2Canoes but it looks like it's been discontinued. I've been reading about ApplePi Baker but I don't have the knowledge to ascertain if it will do the job.

I want to be able to store more music files on my Octy 3 Amundsen media unit. I have everything stored as .flac

Having read further on here I realise the cloning process would need to also clone the CID if that is actually possible to read it and write it to the new card.

Perhaps cloning isn't necessary at all and I just need to find a new card with editable CID. If anyone's done this could they provide a link to a suitable card?

What kind of Amundsen is this for?

Your profile suggests a MK2 Octavia but I think you've sold it...

Must amend my profile. Yes I've sold the old girl that I travelled 100,000 miles in. She was a brilliant car.

I have a Mk3 Se L now.

I assume that's a 2018 so it'll have a MIB2/MIB2.5 Amundsen fitted.

In which case, yes, the only check is the CID is valid but this only applies to the navigation SD card.

For music, you can use any SD card and given it has two SD slots, have both the music and navigation cards in at the same time

MIB1 (until mid 2016) or MIB2?

Often a larger SD card isn't needed if the card is reformatted to FAT32 with the Cluster size set to 4K (there are many very small files which can waste a huge amount of space (even a 1 byte file takes the cluster size).

Thanks. Am I correct in thinking I can add music files to the card used for satnav and it will be selectable as a music source? As I use flac files I do use a lot of storage capacity.

This forum's edit function seems to be on a short timer!

Ok so I tried to add -

I'm not sure if I want to stick with the built in satnav or use one I can install on my iphone. For now I woud like to continue using one card for satnav but add music files too if it's possible.

I wondered also if anyone had used the Mappy satnav or could recommend another. I don't like the Google one.

My understanding is that the sat nav SD card cannot have anything except the sat nav data and that the music files need to be on a separate SD card.

That depends on whether mappy is CarPlay compatible - you'll need to ask the developers of Mappy.

BTW I use Google maps and find them great, they have one big advantage which is that you can download offline maps while on WiFi which means the only mobile data usage is for traffic information.

Oh well that simplifies things. I'll have to but a bigger card for the music. I am surprised to see 256G cards for around £30.
