Xenon headlight fitment??

Featured Replies

Hi, i've recently bought a 2001 Octavia VRS. I looked up the car on the net, to find as a upgrade. Some have got xenon headlights, so i've sourced 2 off ebay to find the wiring is different.:thumbdwn: I need help !! Does anyone know what I have to change to make these fit my car?? Any help would be gratefull.....Slapas

it not just the wireing thats different you need the control box and the sensors for the suspension so it know where to piont the light

Haven't looked at this in much detail but it's an easy job on a golf so if the connectors are the same as the Golf then you may be able to use the retro fit loom for them.

Suspension sensors for the self leveling?

I thought it was just counterbalances or motors in the headlight unit.

You will need at least the starter ballast though to provide the large voltages across teh Xenon gass to ignite it.

You can retro fit them as the Golf boys do but you dont have the full features (and some would argue legally required features) of self leveling (requiring sensors on the suspension) and washers (requiring washer bottle, jets, pump, wiring, controller).

Wow now it becomes apparant why they are a £500 option !!

Some folks on a golf forum did alot of research into the legalities and found that the self levelling and washers was only a legal requirement for manufacturers when making vehicles but isn't an MOT requirement for retrofit kits.

However this is only what I've read so I don't know for sure. I would say though I retrofitted them to my golf and had no problems with the MOT or otherwise. Infact I'd like to do the upgrade on my Octy at some point.

I would imagine on MOT all the tester would do is check that the headlamp is at the correct level at the time of the test and as for washers I dont think its a fail if they dont work.

So your more than likely correct Eddy.

Why do I need a sensor for the suspension, how does that adjust the direction of the light?? And what control box do I need ?? Thanks for all your help guys:thumbup: , I didn't think it was going to be this complicated!!!

Because if you chuck a shed load of stuff in the boot the Xenons wont be at the correct height and blind on coming drivers. Xenons have sensors to auto adjust the level. Sensors monitor the height of the suspension and relay a signal to a control unit that moves the beam height to keep the same base set level.
