Mk1 fabia vrs turbo upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi, just looking for a little bit of advice. Recently bought a 07 mk1 fabia vrs, had the car about 3 weeks and suddenly the turbo decides to give in. Checked receipts that came with the car and it was replaced 20k miles ago, was also told the previous owner had the car flash mapped which is making me think that’s why the turbo gave in. I was looking down the path of getting a GT1756 hybrid for it so it would support the current map. Just wondering what supporting mods I will need and if I will need any? Also I’m not in the best financial situation to get it properly mapped yet so would it be ok if I put the turbo on and ran it at my current power until I’m ready to map it further? Thanks for any help

A 1756 will not work well with the current map, a 1752 might though. Poverty mods never work out well so you might be better looking for another standard turbo secondhand or better yet a PD150 unit.

Yes I’ve been told the 1752 maybe a good option, would this just be a simple bolt on and is there any other additional mods required if I get this one fitted? I’ve been advised to not get the pd150 unit as the garage I’ve taken my car to seems to think the bearing has failed due to over boost from the ****ty map so he’s said a pd150 may have the same problem? Am I better getting a 1752 so I can safely run it at my current power for now and  then add supporting mods down the line and map it to what it’s capable of?

A PD150 turbo will handle the higher boost of a poor map no problem because it has a slightly bigger impeller so it will be spinning slower to make that same boost pressure which means it won't overspeed and break up, it's not usually the bearing that fails because it's an oil bushing.

The garage I went to said it will be the bearing as it’s making a bit of a rattle noise when on boost, car would smoke if it was seals and it’s not. I’ve read that you can take a gt1752 to about 220bhp safely as apposed to the pd150 people saying you can’t go much higher than 200? I will be wanting to get the car to around 220 in the future so the 1752 seems more suited for me, I’m just curious if I’d need all the supporting mods straight away or if I could wait until I can afford it all and just run my current map for now? Would it cause damage if I was to run it at the current power on the hybrid turbo?

Dude, it doesn't have bearings, it's BUSHES, therefore there's no way it can rattle.

Believe what you like, the mechanic is confused, it's starting to sound like a boost leak if it's actually still boosting.
