Any way to retro fit Bluetooth module to work with my Bolero Unit

Featured Replies

Hi looking for help or tips on getting Bluetooth into my mk2 facelift. It came with a bolero unit which had an “enable Bluetooth” feature within the settings menu but it doesn’t do anything. I’ve seen forums mention it might not have a Bluetooth module? At the moment when I press the phone button on the stereo it just mutes stereo.

Does anyone know what Bluetooth unit I need to buy or should I buy a new unit entirely. Something from a newer model perhaps? Something with Bluetooth already pre installed within the unit? Even if it’s a vw unit I don’t mind!

Thanks!

I’ve attached an image of what the unit looks like.

I have exactly the same thoughts.
It would be nice to have Bluetooth function working and listen to music from the phone.

I’ve done it.

you need this loom, this microphone and a module.

the one I used was 5k0 035 730 B.

that gives you Audio and calls!

also it needs to be coded in.

Amazing thanks!

How did you code it in? Or did you get someone to do it?

have you got a link/ pic to the microphone you used?

Also where did you place the Bluetooth module? I heard something about it going underneath one of the front seats?

Thanks again!

I coded it myself with car scanner. Used a carista obd2 adapter. The hardest part was finding space for everything.

the medial is behind the climatronic panel.

the microphone is in the headlining.

the hardest part was finding space behind the stereo for the quad lock connector. This is the microphone I used.

Nice one thanks!

How did you code it in? I called up a few people and they didn’t want to do it for me as apparently they don’t have the VAG group ODIS software that is necessary apparently?

Also how much experience in this sort of stuff do you have? And where did you get the info for this, do you have a diagram or something that you followed?

Thanks again

I used car scanner for iOS.

its £5.99 and it supports long coding.

took seconds to figure out.

into 77 telephone and enter the code on the module.

you don’t need a diagram or specialist software, (although it helps) all you need is patience and a mind for figuring out problems.

made up with that going to check it all out and get it done will check back in when its done or if I'm struggling 😂

I’m also interested. Did you put the module under the driver’s seat. Please if you could be more specific it would help me a lot

I put my module behind the climatonic panel👍

does it fit easly? did you struggle? I feel cutting the carpet, posing the cable of the bluetooth module and so on it's not an easy task. I ordered mine with MDI module pre-installed, could it be possible to use them both? how long did it take to install the module? did you put the mic on the roof near the roof-light? did you remove pillar a for posing the cable? thanks, I'm really interested. and, by the way, how many long codes did you issue for having it working? Hope phone menu is present in the maxidot, and the address book does work. thanks

No maxi dot in mine, although the module came out of my Passat with a maxi dot and the phone book was present. Now it’s shown on the bolero itself. Mics in the roof light, the pillar trim had to come off. I had to take the tabs off the module to make it fit behind the climatronic panel. I would have mounted it under the seat if I had the foam for it. It will work with mdi, my Passat had both. It took me around 1.5 hours, most of the time was figuring out where to place the quad lock (it’s a pita) space is a premium behind the bolero. Just 1 code which is on the module. Best place for the quad lock is to the left of the stereo cage. Take the cubbyhole above the bolero out for ease of locating the quad lock. I can take pictures tomorrow if needed.

If you could  it would be appreciated… did you put the mic cable under the right or left pillar?

I put the mic cable I get the glovebox and up the passenger side pillar.

last - i hope question- having a maxidot, which module is the best option? what whould hae been pre-installed back in 2010 when I got the car in the first place?

the reason I am asking. I have found this info:

Low with basic function = 1K8 035 730

Mid with BT streaming = 5K0 or 7P6 035 730

High with Text messages = 3C8 & 5N0 035 730

and I feel that the second and the third choice are not the same regarding wiring. I dont want to have the wrong kit/cable. I'd like to have the phone in the maxidot and straming music

I have the 5k0 and it works with maxi dot for calls and streaming, as I said it came out of my Passat with maxi dot. It works with iOS and Android. I can’t say for the others as I’ve no experience with them.

I bought the loom kit and module  7P6 035 730 F. I’m planning to use obd11 because that’s what I got. Will keep you posted. Hope to find out what long code i must provide to the module

The code will be on the module.

I used the Bluetooth device address.

I received the loom and the foam thing that goes under the passenger seat, still waiting for the main dish, the module itself. I am a bit worried because:

1) I will do the installation and I don't know how easy the pillar trims go off. Should I unplug the battery for avoiding the airbag in upper pillar A to be triggered? the bottom pillar A has to come off, but I'm reading on the manual that I need to remove bottom pillar B, which requires upper pillar b to be remeved. So a lot of work!

2) it seems that my bolero unit, made by blaupunkt, has issues with the phone address book. My fw release says 0054, obdeleven says that there is a new upgrade, version 0063, but I didn't find any info online. If the bt unit arrives tomorrow, I will try my best

for reference:

bolero unit made by blaukpunt is 1Z0 035 156F

being an IT guy, the "programming" seems to be the easiest of the tasks for me

well I succeded. the phone syncs, and the address book works. the calls work! The only minor glitch I have is BT audio. if I stream from the phone, the title of the song is not displayed and I cannot pause, or use next or previous. not on bolero's screen nor via the wheel buttons. any help would be appreciated. I feel I am missing something in the config

I can’t control via bolero either.

I have an IPhone so I’d need car play for that.

I don’t have steering wheel controls. So I can’t comment on that.

I bet users on here have done that.

I was wrong. Phone book is messy on bolero screen too. But everything works except this and controls during streaming
