Doah, heated mirrors always on!!

Featured Replies

Just realised (when a mate pointed it out), if the switch on the drivers door is in the middle between mirror adjustment it'll heat the mirrors permanently doah!!

Wouldn't you have thought it would be linked in with the heated rear window dimister function:rolleyes:

I dont kjnow whther thats true as I was told that it automatically switches off after 15 minutes just like the rear window one does.

They work independently of the heated rear screen, but I do think they're on some sort of timer.

I thought that in that switch position it would only work when the rear demister was on!, but I could be wrong (and often am :P ).

Well after driving to work one morning, after an hour and half when i got there they were still on!

im sure they will be on and off intermittently like the hob on an electric stove!

I doubt they will burn out of whatever although are more likely to break!

So does this mean Fabia drivers are to blame for global warming?

I made a point of leaving my mirrors in the L+R position to prevent the mirrors being on all the time as it'll burn out the filaments. Luckily (?) for me the heating elements were already burnt out when I picked the car up so I could leave the switch in whichever position I wanted

Interestingly, Ford chose to use the heated rear window button to turn on the heated mirrors as well as the heated rear window, rather than having a separate switch....

Can someone clear this one up for good please, my dealer said the mirror heater only worked with the dial in the centre posistion and the heated rear window on, is this the case? Will it do anyharm to leave the dial in the centre position? Lord knows, is the lord there??!!

As far as my manual told me, the heated rear window and heated door mirrors work independently (although without a light on the mirror switch, it's hard to confirm).... I would personally avoid leaving it permanently in the heated position :D

Chris

Well I've had mine in the centre position since last January when I bought the car and still works fine so can't see there being a problem.

Just leave the switch on either L or R when not using the heated mirrors! It's not that hard to do, is it?

they do work independently on mine, I felt them. Not s big deal but just something to remember I guess.

No, it's the Marmite burners.

The mirrors are completely independant of the rear screen.

There is no real heat involved and I did the same thing for weeks  Left them on.

You can hear the relay click as you turn them to L/R so yeah, they're permanently ON otherwise you'd hear the relay clicking all the time.

I had mine on continuously for 2.5yrs in my vRS, never had a problem, but always had clear mirrors :D

It's a great party-trick in the winter with steam rising from the mirrors ;)

It depends on the year of the car as to whether they stay on all the time or whether they cut off after 20 minutes. As you can see from the vag-com settings below, after May 2002 mirror heating elements stay on as long as they are switched on.

I have just reset my rear mirror heaters to cut off after 20 minutes

Vag-Com settings.......

- > channel 002 (heatable windshield)

Disconnection time of the heatable windshield.

Range of values: 1-253 = 0,66-173 min

Default value: 29 = 20 min

- > channel 003 (heatable outside mirror)

Disconnection time of the heatable outside mirrors.

Range of values: 1-253 = 0,66-173 min

Default value (to 04/02): 29 = 20 min

Default value (starting from 05/02): 254 (without disconnection)

- > channel 004 (heatable back window)

Disconnection time of the heatable back window.

Range of values: 1-253 = 0,66-173 min

Default value: 29 = 20 min

i leave the heated mirrors on constantly in my octavia, always clear and never think about until a thread lke this gets started :D
