Yeti turning off automatically.

Featured Replies

I have faced this issue twice in My yeti, 2011 model, 110000 km odo.   Vehicle is turning off in an inclined road about 20 degree. first time it happened during a 30 km continuous drive, around 35 degrees outside. Second time during 320km continuous drive. Vehicle is turning off in an inclined plane, third gear around 30 kmph speed.

after that,

1. Vehicle is not cranking  around 5 mnts.

2.After 5 mnts,  yeti making initial starting sound (starter motor i think).

3. after 10mnts, engine starting but quickly turning off.

4. after approximately 15 mnts , engine started like normal engine.

5. No warning messages except maintenance symbol. No limp mode. No other warning signs.

6  had a talk with servicing technician in Bangalore. He is pointing out it may be because of 4 wheel self protection system.

Any one came across an issue like this ?. please share your thoughts.

Can't help you much here Vimal, but "third gear around 30 kmph"??

Your at a very low speed apprx 20mph, in 3rd gear, which will incline the engine to want to stall.

At that speed I would have thought 1st or 2nd gear would be better.

Just a thought...might help.

You actually mean you're trying to climb a 1 in 5 slope in third gear!? I think second or even possibly first is required on a hill that steep!

The engine off is not like  an absence of power because of inappropriate gear. Its like smooth off. Not a sudden halt.

Secondly, engine is not turning on for at least 15 mnts (min). Why it is happening ?. Something with diesel filter ?!!

I have 4*4, 140 bhp version, without pressing the accelerator, vehicle can easily catch 30 kmph in 3 gear.(Try to change the gear only by depending the default acceleration. apply clutch in a smooth manner). I am sure it is not because of power issue.

What sort of Diesel are you using? is it a branded No.2 fuel? or someones "biodiesel cooking fat special"

🙂.Not sure about the fuel quality.

Yes, all my life I have encountered Service Receptionists that are world champion Bullsh1tters, I had business cards printed up to present to them or other suitably gifted candidates.

It said "I'm a bit of a bullsh1tter myself but its nice to see a professional in action" :D

Just to clear things up, when you say "engine is not turning on" do you mean the dash lights don't light up, or the engine turns over but refuses to start, or the engine will not turn over?

Change the Diesel Fuel Filter.

See if that cures the problem.

And 30kph 1st gear.

Grab from Yeti Manual. My civic is picking from 18kmph in 3rd gear without knocking, and without slipping the clutch. Yeti is picking from 20 Kmph without knocking.

I will be checking the diesel filter in the upcoming service whether it needs to be changed or not.

Thanks all for the reply.

@rustynuts.

1. Dash light is on.

2. Stage 1: Engine is not turning on. Only starter motor is on.

Stage 2: Engine is on but refuses to start (it happens after 5 mnts approximately)

Stage 3: Engine refusal is becoming less.

Stage 4: Engine is on like normal days.

3. first time it happened @ 105000km approx , 2nd time is @ 109500km approx.

Hi Vimal

That sketch of "Shifting to save energy" only applies to a level road.    On a hill you must change down,    I suggest a minimum of 1500 RPM.

Your problem could be insufficient fuel pressure in the diesel high pressure circuit.  If the pressure drops too low, the engine is programmed to not start.

I suggest you change the fuel filter in case it is partly blocked.  After that you may need to check that the low pressure pump (lift pump) is working OK.

If you don't know what is involved with doing that I suggest you get somebody to do it that knows what they are doing.

Hi All, thank you all for the comments.

Planning a service this week. Have to do the below.

1) Turning off issue.

2) Engine oil change.

3) Filter replacements.

4) Front antiroll bar change (Only bush has to change. But it is not available in local market. So changing the anti roll bar kit which is available with service centre).

5) Haldex oil change.

6) Dashboard rattling issue.

My thoughts are either fuel filter is part blocked, or fuel tank vent problem (so getting a vacuum in tank on the incline, restricting fuel flow)

The second one is easy to check, just open fuel filler when you have the problem, if there is air hissing sound and problem is fixed, then tank vent needs fixing.

But I suspect it needs a new fuel filter

Are they changing the Haldex filter too?

That sounds like they are trying to charge for more than they need to.
