  • I've been using 11 since I was able to get it on developer preview. I absolutely love it, I am really impressed. I found it simple and intuitive, the only thing I found frustrating was the start menu

  • Seems avoidable.

Considering this laptop cost me nearly £1,300 in January, I'd like to f****** hope so!

Upgraded. Seem to have lost a couple of files including my library of product keys. Sh**.

It would appear the search function in 'Start' and File Manager isn't looking for any of my documents. Managed to trace the file by working backwards from Excel to find the spreadsheet. Now to find the other files.

@AnnoyingPentium that sucks that it wasn't the usual smooth upgrade experience.

I did have to install Windows 11 x3 due to one program being a swine, that wasn't fun, felt like groundhog Day.

You're at Windoze 33!? ;)

As a further update:

My start menu is FUBAR. Can't use the search function at all and it's just overall being a bit weird. Plus this computer is feeling really sluggish for something that's pretty decently powered at a year old (i7-10750H (6 core/12 thread), 16GB DDR4, 512GB SSD, RTX2060 6GB etc etc) but it feels slower than my 10 year old ThinkPad X201i under Windows 10.

Restarted the computer after installing updates and suchlike. Now almost bearable. Think I'll jump back over to the ThinkPad though.

You should threaten it with violence, that usually makes it pay attention.

Did you do in-place update (I presume from earlier post that's the case)

I do hate formatting, but actually helped me in the end.  My M.2 SSD was almost running like a HDD, latest driver's.  Clean install and now it's full speed.

If I read correctly, October MS will be enabling some feature's or adding in some that are not yet functional.

Ye olde hammer that I smashed the black box with seemed to talk it into working.

I just done the update "in-place" if that's what I think you're referring to. Cannot be bothered wiping everything but it may get that way since I plan on getting another SSD for this laptop after I've had the keyboard repaired.

@AnnoyingPentiumI do hate having to do a clean installation, but years of practice and good backups mean "sometimes you just have to take off and nuke it from orbit" as they said in Aliens.

I am glad they should be moving to annual updates, twice a year is annoying.

I usually nuke my other, older machines every now and again... usually because I **** up a Windows 98 installation beyond redemption anyway! :D

I don't like disturbing this or my ThinkPad as I use for the former for a lot of stuff and the ThinkPad is for my uni work so I have to be cautious and I can't fully trust that I've backed up everything. So yeah. I'd rather take the chance with this one, which I'll do once I've fixed it. It's a year old and the keyboard is duff just outside of the warranty.

@AnnoyingPentium I am so curious I cannot help it, what is your "winver" for your Winblows 11?

Mine is 22621.521 (22H2 of course)

I was reading some are loading newer than that and having issues with search and start menu.

Same as yours. Start menu hasn't been problematic since yesterday, touch wood. :)

Interesting email from Windows Insider this morning;

Hi Windows Insider,

Today, we are excited to announce the expansion of Android™ apps on Windows 11 for Windows Insiders and the broader Windows 11 community in the United Kingdom.

With this unique preview, the Amazon Appstore brings Android™ apps and games to Windows 11 that weren’t available before, so you can get even more for your PC! These apps and games join our broader catalogue to enable you to be and do your best—from core to casual games, productivity suites, social experiences, creativity tools and more.

Check the following before you start discovering all the new Android™ apps and games using the Amazon Appstore on Windows 11:

  1. Your PC needs to meet these system requirements.
  2. Make sure you’re running Microsoft Store version 22206.1401.6 or higher. You can check for updates for the Store by going to your Library and selecting the “Get updates” button.
  3. Your PC’s region must be set to United Kingdom.
  4. You will also need to have a UK-based Amazon account (amazon.co.uk) to use the Amazon Appstore.

If everything looks good, select the button below to install the Amazon Appstore from the Microsoft Store.

It seems you can run some Android apps on Win 11. You'll need to go to Microsoft Store and search for Amazon Appstore. I believe in there you can find some Android apps.
I'm not currently running Windows 11 so can't say which apps are available.

Might give that a bash this evening. Got a couple of apps I'd like on my computer. :)

Excellent thank you. Been back to using my W10 ThinkPad x201i anyway as I've been back at uni.

As a little laptop, it's great. I wish Lenovo had kept using the old keyboard and design. Might be a tad dated now but my god it's good.

Anyway to stay on topic, do I prefer Windows 10 or 11? 11 is like a better 10 in terms of GUI but I've yet to have a good version of it. I hope it doesn't do a Windows ME... :D
