Bearing in mind I'm a "Toyo fan" - I'm torn toward the T1R - @ 67.70 a tyre.... But then I noticed that cheaper tyres were available - The KU31 @ about 62.80 a tyre, and the P Zero (nero) @ 63.50 a tyre....

Which do I choose? Important thing is grip... care not about road noise... just grip and performance. Longevity would be a factor too.

Which should I go for? I need FOUR! :(

If you know the T1-R and you like them then £20 spread across all 4 tyres is worth it.

What P Zero? Rosso, assymetrico, directionale or Nero?

R A or N are all good, from pref go for the Nero or the Assym if you can :D

Its Nero, sorry. :o Didn't realise there were others. :D Edited first post.

Go with the Toyos. I would have had them on mine if the Goodyear Eagle F1's hadn't been rated so highly by independent reviewers.

If it's the Neros, get them!!!!

You will love them, more grip than the Toyos in the dry and a lot more progressive in the wet. Nice stiff sidewalls too.

eagle F1s are £82 each, so I'm considering them as an expensive tyre. So it really is down to just these three. :)

I voted Nero, just so I could view the poll.... Heart still says T1-R

Or you could be daring and try one of each to see what you like  *

*If you put it on its roof again following this advice it's your own fault!

Toyo Proxes T1-R

The Toyo Proxes T1-R is leading the development race with its nearest competitors including Goodyear with their GSD3 Eagle F1 and Avon with their ZZ3. More recently Toyo have worked hard to develop their product to attain top billing in the hearts and minds of the

There is always a comprimise between longeivity and grip, so you'll have to decide which is more important to you.

I've got a KU32 in my boot, it looks nice but it's never been on the road :P

My Neros used to last about 12-15k miles, including track use, if I rotated them part way through.

You'll like them Jason

Grip isn't normally associated with longevity unless you buy Michelins. Just double your quote for Toyos to arrive at a likely price :)

My current favourites are Goodyear F1 GSD3s but that's on the Scooby. If I could get them, Bridgestone S02PP would be fitted but they're discontinued in the size I need.

So I guess my recommendation would be:-

Goodyear F1GSD3 (expensive)

Toyo T1R (people rate them but I've not tried them)

The Kumho Ecsta KU31 is

Of course grip is associated with longevity, the softer the tyre the better the grip the quicker it wears.

It may be £54,50 for a tyre from mytyres but you've still got to add in around £10 for fitting, balance and disposal of the old carcass.

At Blackcircles there is a £10 discount for each tyre if you use this link, however for the KU31's it still doesn't save you much over the prices you quote Jason -

http://www.blackcircles.com/msn/discount

£10 off a tyre , you will have to use a seperate email address for each voucher required and place a seperate order for each tyre if you need more than one.

Nero`s next best thing to F1`s

As a small thread hijack, I used to run SO2's on my Scooby and replaced them with SO3's which I found to be as good, if not better, despite the slating they seemed to get in the Evo tyre test. Certainly weren't cheap though!

Chris

I've got T1-R's on mine and they grip fine, and they seem to be lasting well.

I cant say they are better than the rest as I've not tried any, maybe it's worth taking trav's advice and giving them a go.

I was in the same position a few months back and ended up getting Pirelli P Zero Nero's. I came to that conclusion as most people with the Goodyear's were using them on 4WD cars. The Pirelli's were excellent in the time that I had them on (couple of weeks as tyres for my 17's were sorted). The tyres that I have on my 17's now are Toyo T1S' and seem pretty good but definately not as good as the Pirelli's. Don't know how much of a difference there is between these and the T1R's though.

Hi,

Is money no object?

Best wishes

When I got the car it was running S03 PPs on the front, S02s on the back (225/35x18s).

For ultimate grip in dry weather and robust performance, yep, the S03 PPs did well. However, they found every nook, groove and cranny in the road. Stability under braking was therefore as interesting as directional stability. Show them a bit of wet weather and the performance died off too much. I think the rigid sidewall also meant I couldn't predict when they'd slide, in the wet. It short, I wasn't comfortable with them.

The Goodyears are much friendlier. They're squirmy under power out of tight corners but the wet weather grip is so much better and more usable.

Agree about the prices of them. When I first priced tyres, F1 GSD3s were over

I meant what you wrote. I used associated to mean proportional to, not inversely proportional to and Michelins usually give fine grip & longevity.

Well, I may have had the ultimate offer by PM. ;)

Which will ultimately mean I use none of the above. :o

Well, it looks like I'll be on Toyo T1-S for some time still..... ;)

Surprise surprise coming up. :D

hey guys try to look at GOOD YEAR ECXELANCE.

i have 215/40 17,and they are awesome.in the rain the fantastic,

really,i think they great

I had a set of GY Eagle 3s fitted (set of 4) and so far I am not all too impressed compared to the Conti SC IIs.

The plus points of the Eagles are:

* Pattern looks nicer (purely cosmetic)

* Rim protector (can't remember what the benefit would be if you dont curb it but I'm sure someone here would :o )

* Ability to grip in the wet is very good noting my comments on 'neg' side

* Straight-on grip is good for acceleration/braking

Bad points:

* Side walls appear to collapse when you push on. To put this into perspective I now go round a particular bend at around 30% slower than before - the car is too twitchy now to go faster.

* Cornering is REALLY dodgy - it's cool if you dont get the sidewall collapsing feeling, but when you push on it understeers like mad. This is with rear ARB + LSD fitted to the car, and I could go MUCH faster on the Contis without it loosing grip IN THE DRY.

Apparently these tyres require a fair bit of scrubbing in. They've done > 1000 miles. I was very impressed with the full-wet experience, MUCH better than the SC IIs.

Would I buy them again though - not a chance. They are the same price as the SC IIs and so far I'm totally underwhelmed by the performance in the dry and during cornering. Will try some different ones next I suppose ;)
