Low idle rpm Fabia Mk2 Monte Carlo 1.2

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've just noticed something with my engine, it has now started to sound differently to how it normally does, best way to describe it would be a slight ticking/ knocking noise. Also just this morning I have noticed that my idle rpm has dropped to around 600 rpm whereas it would normally sit at 1000 rpm . The Car itself is healthy, Full service done in July, done about 77k Miles and still seems to be driving perfectly fine.

Am I looking at a big fix as I have only had this car for just over a year?

Welcome.

For a 1.2 TSI the 1,000 rpm was a bit high after it had started and a few minutes after.

What does a full service mean.  What was actually done over and above an Oil & Filter and inspection service?

Is there new Spark Plugs fitted, or when was that done, is there a new fresh air filter in?

Probably nothing to do with anything but if the change is that now you have in E10 95 ron from where ever you buy it, try a tank of E5 so Super Unleaded 97 or 99 ron and see if there is any change.

That is once you can refuel.

Hi, thanks for the reply in the service the air and fuel filter was changed so was the spark plugs and oil service as well. Since the service just over 1k miles has been done.

when I start it the rpm goes to 1k then falls to 600 rpm if that helps as well.
this is what my engine is sounding like at the moment. Still a fairly new driver so don’t know if it’s healthy or not

Sorry unable to see either of those 2 you have posted.

Maybe someone else can see them.

600rpm is too low so head back to where the service was carried out.

Someone here with a 2013 1.2 TSI can tell you how their car behaves.

The ticking sound is the timing chain, the drop in RPM is probably also related to this.

For complete peace of mind you should get the timing chain and tensioner components renewed although it's not urgent.

Get the work done by an independent VW specialist rather than the dealer.
