16A or 32A socket

Featured Replies

Hi All

I have just ordered a Superb IV SE Technology which I should be getting in the next few weeks.

In preparation I am trying to get an standard 3 pin socket installed on the external wall of my office so I can charge it when I am at work.

The electrician asked me if it needs a 16amp or 32 amp supply. The difference being that is 16a he can just spur it off from an existing internal socket on that wall but if it is 32a then he will need to wire it in directly from the fuse box.

Does anyone know the answer to this?

Many thanks

Will answer my own question as looking through the brochure I noticed that the supplied cable for use with a standard 3 pin plug socket is only 10 amp so will assume a 16 amp socket is fne.

As long as the spur is off a ring you should be fine. If it's a spur already I would a get dedicated supply put in. The issue being that many sockets day they are rated for 10 or 13A but not at a constant for hours on end like you would need for a car charger.

We had a Pod Point installed at home, and I've seen other iV owners dedicated chargers. All have a cable direct from the household mains supply, with a separate fused spur from just after the consumer unit (meter); so I assume 32 amp. In their last software update, Skoda raised the charging level...mine now takes just two hours 0-100% from the charger unit. Never used three pin.

Can it charge at 7Kw/h with the latest software? That would be fantastic, the slow charging is very frustrating, even on a 22Kw charger it still takes almost 4 hours (obviously it's maxing out at 3,6 on my car) What software version are you running now?
