Superb iV 'Engine Sound Generator'

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if the Superb iV Sportline Plus has an internal engine sound generator (similar to the Ocatvia vRS when in 'vRS mode') when the ICE is in use?

There is a fuse for an 'engine sound generator' but I don't know that if that's for the external e-mode pedestrian warning sound generator or for an internal one that someone at Skoda thought was a good idea to make the ICE sound like a rattley old rough diesel to the car's occupants. I struggle to believe that the 1.4TSI engine can sound that bad when on the move.

Out on the open road, you don't notice it but around town, the 'engine noise' is, to me, atrocious!

Is there a button to turn it off?  Our works renault kangooze sound like an old fashioned milkfloat till you whack the silence button.  The nissan env200's we had previously had the same thing (although they sounded like the grinding noise of dragging brakes)

The external e-noise does sound like a rattly old diesel, but it's only used when in e-mode.

The 1.4 is also pretty gruff when you lean on it, but the gearing does settle it down once you've reached your speed

No button to switch it off - I don't even know if there is an internal noise generator. I could pull the fuse and see what happens....

I have absolutely no issues when the ICE is doing its thing, I just found it somewhat 'unrefined' on my recent ICE-powered town commute compared with when the iV is in e-mode on the same route. 'Gruff' is a good description!

Yeah it doesnt quite run like a sewing machine. There is no plastic cover on the head, so I assume that might let out a bit more noise.

My GTE had an internal 'soundaktor' which only played sports noises in GTE mode. In sport mode on the IV I don't notice it at all so either my car doesn't have the internal one or it's been turned down massively.

I'd pull the fuse and see what error it throws?
