Skoda Fabia Drum Solo

Featured Replies

Okay so hear this…

my car literally plays a the beat from Mad Max: Fury Road. I have attached a video but if that doesn’t work I’ll edit a YouTube video link so anyone can listen.

*clutch in* sound stops
*clutch out* sound starts

1.2 HTP manual AZQ engine

That will most likely be your thrust release bearing but could be other pats assossiated with the clutch assembly.

Either way a gearbox out job. Does the car drive normally and are you aware of the noise while driving in gear?

Could you clarify what you mean by in and out, please?

In = pedal to the floor? Out = not?

On a less serious note, your Fabia is probably a better drummer than me and I've been doing it for 11 years! :D

I’ve read a couple posts and that has been mentioned a few times. I’ll see what can be done.

It seems like it’s misfiring when idle, some loss of power then back up again. Getting it checked for some codes to see what that could be.

Drives as smooth as silk in gear especially on some tarmac.

I don't understand how there can be any clutch release bearing involvement if the noise only happens when the clutch pedal isn't pressed.

My picture of how a clutch works is that the release bearing only does anything at all when the pedal is pressed?

More likely the bearings at the far end of the shafts, I'd say.

For engine issues at idle check this post for possible causes.  It sorted my rough running on a 1.2 HTP engine (other than the "characteristics" of a 3 cylinder).

Clarification

Check the coilpacks too in terms of engine related things.

It cannot be the release bearing, it must be the gearbox, I suspect an oil seal failure has left the gearbox oil level low and the input shaft bearings have suffered

@sepulchravethat does not sound good at all.

I’ll see what can be done but I imagine it’s not anything simple.

cars being used for a delivery job so I hope it can work with me for a month or two.

It's rare for gearboxes to fail completely, they usually get much noisier first, try topping up the gearbox oil to slow down the failure.
