Steering Wheel Lock Recommendation

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Can someone recommend a good steering wheel lock for my new Octavia Mk4 iV VRS. When I look on Amazon I see a banner at the top that say's "Amazon confirmed fit ! This does not fit Skoda Octavia 1.4 TSI IV VRS See similar products that fit this vehicle". When I click the link it just say no products found.

I've been recommended to fit one since I have on street parking and Kessy. Others are saying to use one of those wee key wallets that block the signal but then others say they are cr@p and just drain the battery. Please can someone help.

Thanks in advance. You are all great.

John

My wife has a Tiguan R Line with kessy we keep our keys when not in use in an empty biscuit tin. It works for us! Took the biscuit outside containing the keys and the car wouldn’t open. Used this for 2 years now!

Just check the size fits your steering wheel as they make two sizes.

Small, 35cm - 39cm     Large 41.5cm - 44cm

And look at this:-

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Disklok-86515-Black-Steering-Protection/dp/B010M57O6U/ref=pd_bxgy_2/259-9359345-9613848?pd_rd_w=JPKbW&pf_rd_p=c7ea61ca-7168-47e3-9c8b-d84748f5b23c&pf_rd_r=5CSP7SN4T3C34KAJ7CS1&pd_rd_r=0b54a446-b373-4e3c-8d40-8f73b078ba82&pd_rd_wg=LDOLO&pd_rd_i=B010M57O6U&psc=1

Thanks, AG Falco

I am surprised you need to do that.

My car is in our internal garage, just 3 metres away from my study where I keep the keys.

There are only thin plaster board walls between the two.

I can press the button on my keys in my room to lock or unlock the car, so that sort of transmission easily travels the short distance.

However if the car is locked I cannot just go into the garage without the key and open the car by touching the handles.

I figure that the car is able to detect from the signal strength that the keys are not sufficiently close for the Kessy effect to operate.

And even if you could open the door you could not drive off since it would not detect the keys being inside the car which is necessary to enable the ignition switch.

The new keys 'go to sleep' after a short time without movement so cannot be used with repeaters to bypass the KESSY system.

Saying that I still keep mine in a faraday pouch.

We keep the keys in the tin as a security measure. Thieves can grab the signal using specialist equipment whilst remaining outside the house  open the car and steal it.

Not with the latest keys they can't. The keys 'go to sleep' until moved.

I think being a Skoda iV Octavia, Superb or Citigo is enough of a deterrent to car thieves.

There is a simpler way to make money then get involved in the issues they can have.

Blimey more negative remarks on the Skoda Forum

I suppose if any thief was foolish enough the steel your mini float they wouldn’t get very far on its minuscule range.

FYI Disklok protection also helps prevent airbag theft which unfortunately is rife at the moment.

Hi, resurrecting an old post.

Does anyone know what size the VRS steering wheel is? (so I know which size DiskLok to get)

Thanks!

Or you could just get one of these. They're £50 rather than £130-150, also a lot easier to store & handle.

I've got one.

Hi TheWanderer, thanks a lot for the reply.

If I'm honest I wouldn't trust a bar lock though. I've seen videos of how easily they come off.

Granted they're more compact and don't rattle round your footwell like a disklok, but I just couldn't trust it.

Thanks for the recommendation and reply though!

It's Thatcham Cat 3 approved, same as the disc lock.

They’re probably going to be in a hurry so surely anything that makes a low-life give even a few minutes pause makes them more likely to look elsewhere?

Agreed. I guess it depends where it's parked and how long they've got.

I'm not doubting the level of security/deterrent the stoplock is approved to, it's each to their own of course. My personal preference is the disklok (even if they are a bit cumbersome!)

Just wondered whethere a 'small' would fit the vRS steering wheel is all 🙂

Thanks for your replies, both.

Alex Robbins the Telegraph motoring expert covered this very subject today - apparently in Auto Express tests some locks could be removed in around 5 seconds. Other locks such as Stoplock, Milenco and Disklok all took over 5 minutes with the Stoplock ProElite taking top honours

The thing with stoplock is that you can pop it behind the passenger seat or on rear seat easily

Slightly off topic but how about window etching? It doesn’t get in the way and you can’t forget to use it. 😀

steve

Etchings not going stop the car being nicked, would only be of use if and when it’s found

If you're really serious about security the fit a Tracker device, it gets nicked you can get plod to track it.

“Good news, we found your stolen car sir thanks to the tracker”.

“Ah great, where is it?”

”Bottom of the lake up the road”.

That won't stop it getting stolen and i really wouldn't want my car back if it was stolen.  Hopefully they'd wrap themselves a tree and explode.

Over several years I've asked Tracker to provide any data that proves the recovery rate with a Tracker is better (to justify the cost and risk of fitting one - I had one fitted to an Audi S3 but the install was botched leading to water coming into the drivers footwell), they have always failed to do so - simply re-quoting their marketing waffle.
