Amundsen Android 12 - Android Auto

Featured Replies

Having owned my 2019 Octavis VRS from new, I've never had a problem with connecting my phone (running Android 8 ) to Android Auto. Last week I decided to treat myself to a Google Pixel 6 running Android 12. However, when I plug it in, the phone doesn't acknowledge the car & the car doesn't acknowledge the phone, but the phone does charge. I have tested my phone & lead in my dads brand new golf gti & that works fine so the problem must be with the car. Having read a few other posts I found one stating that you may need to enable developer mode & set the default usb action to file transfer/android auto which I have done but this hasn't helped. Not sure if I need a software update so have posted a pic of my current version etc. If all else fails I may have to purchase an aa wireless device but would rather avoid this if possible.

Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated

There is a setting in AA that allows it to pair to a new car. Is this enabled?

Unfortunately for the newer versions of Android Auto, there is no longer a separate app as it is built into the Android operating system. However, as my phone worked on the Golf, I assume this won't be the issue but thanks for your suggestion 😊

My Pixel 5 running Android 12 works fine with the Amundsen in my vRS although the headunit is running a slightly newer software version (0480) :)

Many thanks for the confirmation, I'll have to try & get my hands on that latest software version.

Thanks, I have posted in the relevant thread so will look out for his reply.

Yes, anything earlier than 0478 on SOP4.x is junk for Android Auto. There is an 0480 update which makes AA fly. Try that first then try again with your new phone.

Multiple users have issue with their Pixel phones, not only with Android 12 but also 11 - if you Google you can find hundreds of threads describing such problems. I have personally changed phone to Pixel 5 several years ago and in one of my cars (Mustang MY16) I was not able to get it working. In my case the solution was to replace USB cable - let me remind that this cable was perfectly working with my previous phone (Samsung Galaxy S10e) running Android 11.

Of course I will send link via PM.

Thanks, I have also found this thread which confirms what you have said

I will try a few different cables but its frustrating when you don't know whether it is the cable or Android app which is at fault.

If it helps, I use the 3ft version of this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07DD5YHMH

Pretty cheap and next day if you have amazon prime.

Perfect, thanks for the link I shall get one on order.

Many thanks for this recommendation, plugged it in & it connected straight away! I was adamant that the cable couldn't be at fault as my old cable worked on another car. For anyone else having connectivity issues, definitely try purchasing one of these.

Thanks again!

Excellent news! Glad it was something simple in the end

I know this is a bit of a thread resurrection, but thought it useful to note that I had the same problem with my 2018 vRS Amundsen and Samsung Galaxy Note8 getting Andriod-Auto to work. The Samsung OEM USB to Type C cable worked for me where other cheaper versions or extensions did not.
