Mk1 VRS soot / map issues

Featured Replies

Hi there guys

I’ve been working on a mk1 VRS fabia on and off for a couple of months and I’m getting closer for it to be ready for an MOT test, but I have one major hurdle before I can do so and that is with the stage 1 remap and pigeon welded decat. So I have a few questions..

When purchasing a catalytic converter, would a brand new aftermarket cat be just as effective as a second hand catalytic converter? There’s one on eBay for sale for around 150 I’ve had my eye on

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172995150397

If that doesn’t help reduce the soot to a satisfactory amount, what would be the best approach for fixing the mapping? If I want to resort to a factory map will it be any cheaper to making alterations to the air fuel ratio of the stage one map?

Cheers.

Yes; neither of them will make any difference to soot from a diesel, which is caused by over-fuelling.

As @KenONeill states the cat makes no difference to soot, you're thinking of a DPF.

You have a bad remap or a 'tuning box' which mucks about with the fuel temperature sensor.

Sep is right here. When I read it I could tell it's got a poor map on it. I'd look into getting that rectified @Chubuking. :)

Thanks for your replies guys.

When it comes to tuning, is it okay for it to be tuned without a dyno for a cheaper price?

I mean, I wouldn't recommend it, as you don't know if you're paying for any given increase. Just my thoughts, at least. :)

If your car is standard then a generic remap is fine, a rolling road tune is really only necessary on highly modified diesel engines, and by standard I mean it has the standard turbo, not that it has fluffy dice and a load of coloured crap stuck all over the engine bay.

So that's a 'yes'.
