How Does the Service Reminder Work?

Featured Replies

Bit of a stupid question, but hear me out. My car was serviced in April by myself (bought it without any service history, don't start, I know I was stupid). For a few weeks, I've had the wee thing come up to say "xxxx miles" until the next service, and also a little thing with a clock that seems to be counting down. My question is thus, how does it count until the next service, is it days, hours, miles, or whatever comes first?

Miles.

Just reset it.

Thank you very much! That's also cured my curiosity (no cats were killed as an effect of it ;)). I'll reset it when it comes time to do the next service in April since that'll be one year since the last service and I don't do the mileage to warrant it more often than that.

If it's on a fixed service schedule, then it will "jump" to lower mileage to service sometime in March '22.

Cheers Ken! I'm possibly doing about 10,000 miles a year. I don't know for sure however as I haven't even had the car a year, it's just a prediction. I'll have had it a year in March '22 funnily enough. :)

At that rate, in Feb or Mar it will jump to 1_000 miles to go, and count down from there til the 366th day from the last service when it will change that indicator to saying "Service due".

Somewhere over the years, I've read on here that most ,if not all Fabias were on fixed 10k/12months  fixed service. Admittedly I've never paid any notice of the two variations of the service reminder as I do mine circa 10k or inside the 12 month limit and just reset the warning.

I'm covered for 10k, but I reckon I'm closer to the 12 month thing. Having bought the car without service history meant that I did the service a month into owning it just to be on the safe side, but it did show signs of either low use or a recent enough service. I'll reset the warning when it comes to servicing at either 60k or April, whichever comes first for my Fabia.
