Skoda Fabia Mk1 1.4 MPI 16V Exhaust

Featured Replies

Hi all, my first post, just got a fabia 1.4 MPI as a project to hopefully turn into my first car. I have been looking for a new catalytic converter as the old one has a leak. Does anyone know of any after market exhausts or just catalytic converters that will fit the car? I have seen that some VRS back boxes fit, But only the back boxes if I'm correct. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

Is it an MPI or a 16v? Both are categorically different cars. Judging by your model year, I'd hazard a guess that you have a 16v (100hp or 75hp flavours, depending on spec etc).

Performance modifications aren't cheap on these 1.4 engines, but there is threads on various things you can do for small gains or go down the ABT Tuning route (also a thread, use search to find it) to get the 100hp model up to 130-140bhp, but that's not cheap as the camshafts by Schrick still sell for around £700.

I believe @fabdavrav had a custom exhaust on his 1.4 16v Fabia, so he should be able to provide some decent advice in that regard.

Hope that helps. :)

I had a Remus stainless backbox with a twin outlet (single side)....I did at one time have a racing 200cell cat (one under the gearstick)...but caused the ECU all sorts of problems which really required a custom stage2 remap on the Magneti Marelli ECU to sort out!

Sorry didn't know they were different 😣. Thanks a lot! it a 16v 75hp. Maybe worth just getting a original catalytic converter and mess around with other things on the car don't want many of problems on it just yet. Does anyone know what size bolt the post cat lambda sensor is?

No worries! :)

It just helps further down the line with fault diagnosis. I presume with the 1.4 16v 75 that it's either a Bohemia, Sport, or Automatic, no?

You know your stuff 😄, Its a sport version. Has weird window switches that have been put in the centre console of the car under the radio. I presume this isn't standard as I haven't seen it on any photos. What's the reliability like on these engines?

BKY engine?

The front pipe on those is a bit of a bugger, having precat and main cat either side of the flexible section. Is the flexi where it's leaking? Usually is.

Aftermarket replacements tend to just have a main cat.

I live in the brochures of the Mark 1 Fabia, often rearing my head to provide advice. :D - as a side note, I also seem to have the power to sniff them out, I call it Skodar

It has been converted to electric windows from manual, which was par for the course for most 1.4 16v with manual windows. The second version of the Sport uses the same 1.2 12v as my Fabia, but came with electric windows.

I can't vouch for these engines personally, but I imagine they're decently solid like most, if looked after. :)

Yeah it is a BKY. Got a pre cat just after the manifold. Its the main Cat after the flexible section that's the problem, looks like someone had been welding it to pass a emissions test. Is the pre cat needed since it has a lambda sensor on as well?

Exhaust part numbers are here (view on computer not phone to see all info) exhaust pipe with catalyst - Fabia(FAB) [EUROPA 2005 year] (7zap.com)

The last 8 digits of your VIN will tell you if it's the first item 1A or the second. The far right button with side-to-side arrows will list aftermarket equivalents.

New genuine are going to be impossible to find and/or impossibly expensive. 2nd hand parts are likely to be in poor condition. :crying:

For the avoidance of possible confusion sources, F >> 6Y-54260 000 means for VINs up to and including this number (work from the right hand end of your VIN to see if the last 8 digits are more or less than this).

F 6Y-54260 001>> means from this number onwards.

To make any sense of the dates in the 'data model' column, remove the leading '20' from each.

Having said that, there's a new genuine 6Q0254504CX on ebay from germany at just over 200 quid, now that I look. Bargain, if it's the right one for your car and arrives intact.

Reliability on the BKY is excellent, one of the most reliable VW petrol engines.

Correctamungus! :) Standard VAG window switches are built into the armrests on the doors.

I've seen quite a few with these aftermarket electric window conversions, actually. Usually a Sport 1.4 16v too. :)

Would much prefer it to be on the doors 😄

Aye I imagine it could be a pain to get used to. I know that it was in the family Dacia Sandero, which has them there from standard.

It's probably more reliable with an aftermarket window control system than with the factory one. ☺️

So true. Especially as these Fabia's age.
