Fabia Mk III Infotainment system question - what changed between 18 and 68 plates?

Featured Replies

Hi all. I'm looking to buy a 2nd hand Fabia (having had a MK1 VRs back in the day) and have a query relating to the infotainment systems - have had a dig and can't seem to find the answer.

I'm looking at either an SE L (110 bhp) or Colour Edition (95 bhp). As I'm sure most of you know, in mid 2018 there were a bunch of minor changes made to the Fabia, one of these was an upgrade to the infotainment system.

In the Colour Edition, the infotainment system  went from having 8 buttons to 6 - seemingly on all of them.

On the SE L, some 68 or newer plates have the 3 button but some have 4 (and I can't find any that have Cruise Control and the "newer" 3 button system).

What is the functional difference between these two systems? Is one "better" than the other?

Cheers

You can download the user guides for specific cars and their production periods here:

View for yourself what VAG documentation says, as what the Swing (for instance) is capable of seems to vary - My 2017 Rapid has a Swing which has no "Smartlink", but later ones have.

The issue is that cars are sometimes (pre)registered to fill quotas, or sell old stock so the production date may be months earlier than expected, and your division of 18 or 68 plate probably doesn't exactly match production changes.

If you have a specific car in mind put the VIN into the guide choice.

AFAIK the business with how many buttons the infotainment has is down to type - Blues/Swing/Swing plus/Bolero/Amundsen, in order of cost/screen size/toys available.

More knobs and bigger screen is generally better, but I'm not sure Amundsen is everyone's first choice for SatNav.

Good luck with your choice,

Thanks John that was very useful actually.

I think I’ve sussed it:

- 18 plate Colour Edition used Bolero system with 4 buttons

- 68+ plate Colour Edition uses Swing system with 3 buttons

- the 4 button unit on the 18 plate SE L is the same Bolero system as the Colour Edition

- the 4 button unit on the 68+ plate SE L is an has the Amundsen sat nav.

- the 3 button system that appears on the 68 plate SE (not L as I wrongly had read) is the same as the swing unit in the colour edition.

With respect to cruise control, all the SE L’s have this, whereas the SE does not - one letter caused me all this confusion!

phew.
