30 - 70 times, few other Q's (newbie)

Featured Replies

Hi, new here (usually to be found lurking on Scoobynet)

Might go for a VRS at some point soon, was wondering what the performance is actually like, currently have a Saab 9-3 LPT (150) which goes quite well but doesnt handle at all well, 30 - 70 it really moves so I am kind of hoping that the VRS is as good or quicker in this useful increment (0-60 largely irrelevant) and I cant find any stats, nearest is for the 130 PD Golf which does it in just under 7.

Need to get rid of the Saab as its a bit thirsty for my 60 mile round trip commute

Now I know this is the VRS's forte (30 - 70 in gear roll ons) but does anyone have an official time for a standard one and also how much difference does a remap make, I am thinking about 7.5/8 standard and late sixes when remappped.

Also, would probably get a new one, fancy Black (despite the washing), with side airbags and ESP, how much should I expect to pay and how long does delivery of a factory oder take, looking at the Skoda dealer in Macclesfield, any experiences ?

How long do I need to run it before getting it mapped, would go for a custom map with the 160 intake and a filter, I would imagine 500 quid would cover that lot, is there anything else (cheap) worth doing pre remap, whats a realistic power output to expect ?

I am in the South Manchester area, does anyone know of a local tuner with a good reputation, I work near Rochdale and I remember seeing there was one round that area but I cant remember the name, any ideas ?

Cheers !

Autocar's test report clocked the Fabia vRS 30-70 in 7.6secs. 'Official' times are pretty inaccruate IMO, I mean 9.6sec 0-60, I don't think so!

I had a 1996 Saab 900 HPT with 200bhp, and tbh I would say there wasn't much in it from 30-70. The Saab was pretty awful around corners, although it was my understanding that the 9-3 was much improved...? The Fabia isn't exactly great around corners, like the Saab the ride is more about comfort than sportyness... having said that I it's too bad, but you can really feel that weighty engine in the front sometimes.

9-3 Much improved, the 900 must have been evil !

Having posted I just found the Autocar review, 7.6 is pretty good, probably about the same as my Saab standard vs standard, would love to see what it does with a remap, must be under 7.

As for 0-60, Autocar recorded a flukey 7.2 on one run !

Hi

I had a classic 900 turbo, with about 195 - 200 bhp, my standard vRS is as exhilarating to drive, and better mannered. If you've got a 'soggy' 9-3 rather than a 9-3 SS then you will really notice the difference. It knocks the socks off our 9-5 2.3 LPT estate, except when we need to travel en - masse with the dog.:D

Isn't it strange how so many Saab owners have, or consider owning a fabia vRS?

I'm sure the Autocar report also said 30-70, 6.2s for the remapped car which is about the same as mine with a dragon box.

if that autocar fabia wasn't chipped I'd be very surprised. Even mine struggles to surpass 7 seconds to 60, and 6 seconds 30-70.

jonny boy did a rough 0-60 on his AmD One Click Fabia and it came out at around 6.5 ! There was a group buy not long ago for one. I understand that they are very good and highly rated by those that have them

I've got an AMD 1-click and there's no way I'd get under 6 30-70. Probably somewhere between 6.4 to 6.8 secs. 0-60, again I'd be looking at 7 to 7.5 secs I reckon...

tbh, I'd be very suprised if anyone could get much under 7 or 6.5 seconds in a Furby - just not enough grip! Maybe on shellgrip surfacing, but you'll need deep pockets for your tyres. :D

Just for fun, did my first standing start 0-60 at the weekend on a deserted Rockbeare straight just outside Exeter (it's a nice 2 mile flat straight for those that don't know it). I was alone in the car (feeling a bit conspicuous and childish  ) and managed a 7.7, an 8.0 and another 7.7 !!!

Car is bog standard with 3000 miles on the clock, I'm 13 stone and I had a fair bit of wheel spin to get going. With more time and skill could probably have got a 7.5 as I held on to second gear a bit long each time.

Haven't done any in gear timing yet - I'll get a mate to help me out at some point....

Not sure of any in Rochdale but Awesome GTI aren't too far away, and they have a good reputation and are actively involved with this site...

Rob.

I posted this info on Scoobynet a few weeks back - someone was going on about the Beemer 320D being much faster than the vRS... These figures come from AutoExpress mag.

Car BMW 320D SE / Skoda Fabia vRS

Power (bhp) 163 / 130

Torque (Nm) 340 / 310

0-60 8.5 / 8.5

30-70 thr grs 8.0 / 8.5

30-50 (3rd) 3.8 / 3.5

30-50 (4th) 6.1 / 4.7

50-70 (5th) 7.6 / 6.2

50-70 (6th) 11.0 / 8.0

Top Speed 140 / 128

Both cars are standard. The beemer actually achieved a slightly better mpg from the test. It should be noted that the tests were from different days this year, so other factors could influence the data...

Also, I have seen another set of test data from AE where the 30-70 time was down to 8.1 secs.

HTH.

My mate got his TT "Revo'd" in Rochdale....Chip Wizard (or Wizards)....he said they did a good job.

Perhaps ScoobyNet should be renamed Skodynet ?

Ah, I recognise the name J4CKO. :)

I too used to be on Scoobynet, although I never owned a Scoob - just used to go to their meets and trackdays to annoy them with my rather brisk 1.4 ;) Octy :D
