Several Niggles with my VW Caddy Pickup Mk2 1.9D - Thermostat ****ing coolant

Recommended Posts

Had a slow leak from thermostat housing for a while.

Garage removed it, and resealed.. now its worst. Absolutely ****ing through the "bolt" when it got hot.

FAN did not kick in.. either..

I expect the housing is cracked near that bolt. Part number 028121132B superseded that part number way back in 2001, which may improve your odds of searching out a replacement.

Plenty of aftermarket parts on ebay, so probably also obtainable by a decent motor factor. 028121132b | eBay

Could the inner thermostat also be dodgy, or will a leak like this send the whole system wonky regardless?

It's better to buy then as a ''set" which means the thermostat already is inside the housing with a new gasket.

I've had conflicting messages. Is the thermostat housed in this piece that is leaking? I've been told the thermo is elsehwhere?

You can buy a separate thermostat and keep the old plastic housing but i think it's better to buy the as set which means new plastic housing with thermostat installed inside

together with a new gasket you will be fine.

Look and example of mine (1.3 Felicia) , older thermostat damaged

so i bought a set as this example:

3 inox bolts and nuts and you are OK.

In 1.9, thermostat is in coolant pump housing.
