Telephoned Vindis Skoda Service Centre Cambridge yesterday to ask if they would change the rear springs at the service on Wednesday.... no sorry, can only fit the same part number. However, parts were a little more helpful. I have AD's, they are going to order AF's for me to collect at the service. Ordered helper springs from Mad Suspensions and Quattro-tech Cambridge will fit both on Thursday or Friday.  Will let everyone know how it goes.

As you are going up two weight ranges, wouldn't it be best to try them out before fitting the helper springs? The rear end might be firm enough without them.

How do the helper springs work? Is there some slack before they "connect" or do provide support all the time?

Can I ask how you read spring weight range ?

You input the build code into the "VW codes decoder".

VW codes decoder
0YD = Weight range 4 installation control only, no requirement forecast
0YE = Weight range 5 installation control only, no requirement forecast
0YF = Weight range 6 installation control only, no requirement forecast
0YG = Weight range 7 installation control only, no requirement forecast

However, the weight range for any particular spring can change. The below chart shows a rear spring for the Octavia MK2 with standard ride height.

Notice that the 1K0511115BD rear spring is called a weight range 2 spring for Octavia MK2 cars manufactured until 5/3/2006, but for Octavia MK2 cars manufactured from 6/3/2006 this same spring is called a weight range 4 spring. What had happened, was that Skoda had started fitting rear springs that were two weight ranges softer.

Sometimes rear springs are used on more than one model of car, but they might be given different weight ranges.

For example, the following rear springs are used on both the Octavia MK2 and the Yeti.

1K0511115CH Octavia MK2 weight range 1, Yeti weight range 2

1K0511115CJ Octavia MK2 weight range 2, Yeti weight range 3

1K0511115CK Octavia MK2 weight range 3, Yeti weight range 4

1K0511115CL Octavia MK2 weight range 4, Yeti weight range 5

1K0511115CM Octavia MK2 weight range 5, Yeti weight range 6

1K0511115CN Octavia MK2 weight range 6, Yeti weight range 7

1K0511115DJ Octavia MK2 weight range 7, Yeti weight range 8

1K0511115DK Octavia MK2 weight range 8, Yeti weight range 9
