Alarm Wouldn't Shut Off

Featured Replies

Hi all, long time reader, first time poster. So my car this evening decided that it would sound the alarm...again....but this time no amount of pressing on the key fob, and the other spare fob, starting and stopping the engine etc...would make it shut up. My plan after a few minutes was to drive the car to the nearest trading estate to try and work out what is going on, and yes the alarm was still going off whilst I was driving the car!! A new one for me this is.

This happened after taking the dog for a walk, walking past the car with the key in my pocket and then a minute later the alarms going off. This has been a slightly common situation, when the car has detected that my key is near but not actually getting in the car which then seems to trigger the alarm. Didn't see anything in the manual about this and needless to say I've now turned KESSY off. Will watch this space, though it does make me wonder what we're achieving here. I'd love to turn off Lane Assist permanently, shorten the distance on the adaptive cruise control for motorway driving or just give me back standard cruise control as it's far too over cautious, and then finally take a hammer to the sat nav screen with it losing all the settings, temperature controls etc. and i must have pressed 'Sync' on the Clima screen a thousand times and turned the air con off already in the few months I've had it. Anyway, I must get round to booking it in for an update, though just thought the alarm fiasco was worth sharing.

How did you stop it in the end?

There was nothing I did that stopped the alarm, though I would say it was going for 5 mins, and would put it down to a time out function.

Mine did this a few weeks into ownership.  Unlocked the car, alarm wouldn't stop sounding until I disconnected the battery!  Reconnected after a couple of hours and has been fine since.  Took it into Skoda the next day, no fault found.

Mine has also just gone off. Unlocked the car, still sounding alarm, started engine, still sounding, Drive away, still going off.  5 minutes later with engine still running it stops. Next time it does it I will just press the SOS button and they will then have to send someone out.

What a pain! I turned KESSY off in the end and have left it off. I've had no problems since and that was back in November. Still have all the other gremlins though, popping speaker, SOS warning light coming on with every journey over about 1.5 hours and more recently had a drive system fault. Just ignored them all to be honest and they all go away temporarily.

Just to update the ongoing situation. After 5-6 minutes the alarm stopped then started again, all the same scenario with not being able to stop it sounding no matter what I tried. Then after another 5-6 minutes it stopped again probably because it has a time out function.

I called Skoda Assist and they arrived within the hour, the alarm not having gone off again. The man plugged in his computer and it brought up a fault on the siren. He re-booted the alarm system until it showed no faults, and since then (4 days) the alarm has not gone off.

One thing he told me was that the little red warning light on the door that shows when the alarm is set, also can show a fault in the alarm system. When you arm the alarm, the light should start flashing straight away, but if a fault is detected, the light will stay static red for a few seconds before starting to flash. If that happens you can expect a problem.

Just had the same issue. Alarm seemed to be set off by my wife walking past.  Fixed it by opening the bonnet, staring frantically at the battery and thinking where are my spanners, and then slamming it down really hard in frustration. Alarm stopped and so far so good. Only been 2 hours though...

Phoned the service team and got told to talk to Skoda Assist if it happens again. Very useful...

I've just had the same issue with an Octavia IV vRS wagon.  I was approaching the vehicle and about 10m away when the alarm started sounding.  The alarm continued sounding for about 20-30 seconds, then stopped for maybe 5 seconds, then started again.  Rinse, repeat, for about 10 minutes in total.  Nothing I tried would stop it, including repeatedly locking and unlocking the car, popping the hood, and starting the car - it just continued while the engine ran!  I was on the phone to Skoda Assist when it finally stopped, not because of anything I'd done.

A roadside mechanic later inspected the car and provided me with a list of faults he pulled from the OBD II.  They include:

- 4 faults with engine control module 1

- 1 fault with the transmission electronics

- 4 faults with the brakes

- 2 faults with the air con

- 3 faults with "electronic central electric" (whatever that is)

- 4 faults with the instrument cluster

- 4 faults with the "gateway"

- 2 faults with the brake booster

- 1 fault with the steering column locking

- 1 fault with the passenger's door electronics

- 2 faults with information electronics 1

- 2 faults with parking assistance

- 1 fault with front sensor for driver's assistant systems

- 2 faults with "interface for access/start system"

- 1 fault with door electronics rear passenger side

The car is 22 months old, has never been in an accident, and has done 8k miles / 13k km.
