Battery on way out looking skoda fabia

Featured Replies

I noticed when the cold weather here now the battery just about started. I have a cig volt checker it was around 12.3v but with starting would have dropped around 12v or just under.

I also noticed anytime I start the car it will charge below 12v. You rev a tiny small about for 1 second and it charges to 14.5v straight away. So the battery wont charge properly until you do that small rev anybody had that before?

The car charges perfect once you done the 1 second rev in idle or driving 14.5v.

Hello

There no battery light showing before starting and when running.

I will have to have a look at the connector for the wiring.

Thanks

That makes me think of the alternator control wires as @Wino cites.

So the main problem near the connector near the gearbox. There any other places it breaks or mainly there?

Just there usually.

Just there usually, and even then you may be "lucky" and one of them's just pulled off the terminal.

There are no push-on wires/terminals on a Fabia Ken. Proper latching two-pin connectors at rear of alt and at the plug/skt pair on gearbox bracket.

Whilst you have the belly plate off and are repairing the alternator wiring under the starter motor, you may as well do the same job on the aircon cables in the same place, if the alternator connections have corroded the aircon ones will be in the same condition.

1.4tdi will take an 096. I suspect the096 is an upgrade as most places quote 027 and GSF are doing a deal on Yuassa batteries. I found 096 was a bit tight with the sleeve ,so I took it out at last change . Last one lasted circa 9 years and my trips are short stop start trips .

I found the blue broken wire on the connector hidden inside the cover. I removed both sides to make clean cuts on 2 cables.

I've joined these now with 2 block connectors and new wiring then insulation tap.

The car now starts up far better power and I can see the battery charging correctly without having to rev for a second when first started. The lights stay bright now as well makes a big difference.

Ok, I'm talking Octavia, but on mine it's a red outline of a car with an open door,

It's the same for the Fabia AFAIK (wouldn't know too much, I don't have such luxuries).

I believe the OP is referring to the Immobiliser, seen in this HatBoyHarvey video thumbnail thingy... :)

The red battery light comes on when starting the car then goes of. It's working great now the battery charging good 14.5v no need for tiny rev when first started to make it charge properly. The car starts up much better when colder weather.

Thanks for the help everybody.

This is anther update since I fixed this wiring near the gearbox. The electric windows have been working fine as well so must be all linked to this problem.
