May I remind you that you said something completely illogical about a locked glove box.

If somebody tells you something stupid you don't HAVE to repeat it to us.

"locked glove box." I did not say that. I repeated advice about leaving the glove box OPEN so that any person looking in could see that there was nothing in said glove box. It's NATIONAL crime prevention policy. DO NOT leave anything in sight to attract a break in.

Also was in my driving theory book under something along the lines of "keep car secured, taking keys and valuables with you"

Mine has the cable hatch release, which has MK1 radio release waiting ( it's a "round tuit" job) which involves a control unit in boot with a cable to the LH side of the boot release. 😁

Less of the rude comments at other users please. They’re not required or acceptable.

FWIW leaving the glovebox open with nothing in it is indeed advice given by crime prevention in some higher risk areas.

Aye, especially the scabby looking things that live on my Furby. :D

Nope, and I wouldn't like to try and deal with my springer spaniel either. Feisty wee bandit when it suits him lol.

Thats why litle lexi is left untethered on the back seat. If someone gets close she can retreat and not feel threatened. Bit different from one dog ( a large 12kg Cairn), who'd defend his car against anyone getting too close.

Or something I saw in Africa. In Bulawayo, cars did not have alarm systems, till there was a spate of break-ins and folks started fitting alarms to front doors. The natives got wise and started to take out rear windows. One day, a game warden had rescues a baby Crock . He'd left it on the rear seat under a damp towel, whilst he nipped into bank. Meantime, two locals spotted something nice on rear seat ,under towel. Police arrived to find one local with a crock attached to arm and rear window on ground.

No-one us being rude to anyone, there is just good-natured banter, surely even you can tell the difference?

As the post received reports to the moderators, I think we can safely assume some people thought otherwise.

I’ve made a comment on thread to raise the point with the least mod intervention and I’m hoping that’s taken as intended.

It is but it's an unnecessarily fine line if you're going to accede to every vexatious complainant, particularly if they've decided to take offence long after the thread has moved on with no escalation.

Misunderstandings do genuinely happen.

I’m sure they do, hence a post and comment in the thread rather than anything more.

Seems to me the only one being rude is the bloke who's not moved on from his colonial past.

'Natives'? Really? He's got form for that kind of shiz. And for unnecesary wasting of mods time.

The same applies to the use of inappropriate terminology from the past too.

I'm sure everyone knows how to take the edge off things without any further moderation being required should they choose to do so. 👍

Native is appropriate terminology, I am a native speaker of English and I am a native of the UK.

I was told in France by an English person, someone who would not be out of place in a Colonial setting, that "we heard you had gone native",  to me the recipient that was offensive and inappropriate.

Cheezemonkai, if you were referring to the use of "Colonial" then please forgive my misunderstanding and I agree with you, I will change the word if you wish.

Just been outside to double check, my 2006 Elegance hasn’t got a locking main glove compartment

My late 2000 built MkI Fabia Elegance did not have a lockable glove box...(I don't think they ever did)

But it did have amongst other things:-

heated front seats

both front seats height adjustable only the drivers seat

electric windows front & rear (rear ones were removed from later models)

Hatch & petrol flap remote releases (by drivers seat)

Door window carrier bolts (not rivets as fitted to later models)

The former was also removed on later models. The latter is on my Ambiente.

I'm still jealous of that spec. Specifically your posh back windows. :D

I even retro fitted the fold out cup holder from the left side blanking panel next to the radio!

If I'd have had EKTA back then I would have fitted either the skid tray or at least the full engine aero cover (sold as diesel noise insulation), & the "rough road" plastic protectors for the underside of the rear axle "arms"...& also a fire extinguisher bracket to the front seat (remove the drawer)..

You know, if you were selling that now I'd have took your arm off.

Ah well, hindsight is an [expletive], eh? :D
