2011 Skoda elegance, has anyone had any problem with their bonnet catch splitting? Dad's broke and the bonnet fell on him, breaking his nose.

I'm not making light, but this did not happen as described. The bonnet catch on a 2011 Skoda holds the bonnet down, not up. A bonnet prop (or lifters) hold the bonnet up.

It was the bracket that holds the bar in place. He wants to know if this is a common problem.

The orange plastic piece is prone to breaking if the bonnet is forcibly lifted before the rod is withdrawn.

 

I just use the nearest bolt head and have had no problems but am wary in windy conditions.

 

The part is only a couple of quid on the bay but looks 3D printed compared to the original moulding.
