Latest EV's with Tail Lights that are the whole width of the rear of the car. WTF is it with some Designers / Manufacturers?

eg Kia at the moment with the EV6.   There are others.

How soon until there are ones with faulty rear lighting going about?

3-5 business days. :D

I don't like all of these odd looking taillights honestly. A particular offender to me is the Toyota C-HR, I sometimes find it difficult to see the turn signals on those due to them being so small. They seem to have fixed that with a facelift but I still think it's a rather ghastly looking thing, no offence to anyone interested in one.

i think it started with Audi putting that ridiculous full width high level brake light on the A7. it then morphed a bit from there into ridiculously shaped parking lights on other marques.

and with EVs its because the designers all watched Tron at a conference and thought hey, that looks cool and futuristic.. like we want people to think about our EVs... lets do that!

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/new-electric-cars-2021 - some absolute lookers in this article here! :D

The one EV I'm quite keen on is the Corsa-e, purely for the reason they've not went and done some sort of outlandish "make it look like something from a 60s sci-fi film" thing with it, just looks like a car as I know it, that's plenty. Anyway, rant over. :)

Sean Connery`s James Bond got thrown in the boot of this 1970 Ford Thunderbird Landau in Diamonds Are Forever by Mr Wint and Mr Kidd so like most things, full width tail lights are nothing new.

My bugbear is the trend for rear indicators to have clear glass and be microscopically small hidden amongst rear lights that look like the Starship Enterprise, the kind of indicators that cops are all over 16 year olds for if they have fitted them to their mopeds, and with good reason, but then they drive home off shift in something even worse!

Today I saw a stupid front indicator on a small hatchback, Vauxhall, maybe Renault, it surrounded the whole headlight unit, at least it couldn't be missed, as I passed the vehicle (it was oncoming) I said to myself I bet you can't even see the rear indicator, - I wasn't dissapointed.

They must employ 12 year olds in the styling department or perhaps they realise that modern parents having singularly failed to instill any respect or discipline in their offspring are desperate to gain their approval when they buy a new car?

There are loads of car ads showing entitled kids approving or not of their parents vehicles on the school run, perhaps they are indeed being "simply clever"

The Toyota C-HR is one that bothers me due to it's tiny indicators as I mentioned further up in the thread, it does prove that it's not just an EV specific issue however and that it's becoming a bizarre design "fad". What happened to actually being able to see signal lights from a reasonable distance and not from 3 inches from the rear bumper? :wondering:

It's so strange. My wee brother gets two options for going to school, he can either get in the car or walk. If he doesn't like it then he can just suck it up. :D

I quite like it, to be honest.... I just wish they'd styled the rest of the car to match the '1980s Cool' as well. Perhaps they could bring back the Vector W8, with a few modern features?
