Advice on leaking rear window

Featured Replies

Recently we purchased a 2013 1.2 TSI Elegance Estate with 25k mileage. The car is in exceptional condition and drives very well. However, when washing it today I noticed that the rear passenger window was leaking. I checked the seals and can’t see any apparent wear/disintegration or disformity.

It probably won’t reveal much, but here are some photos. Can anyone advise what the problem may be?

Hi, welcome.

ETA: You could also check the drain holes at the bottom of the door are clear in case you put the windows down and back up.

Assuming the window was fully up it might be the rubber seal.  You could try to revitalise the seal a bit by cleaning it and applying some silicone, best applied with an inch cube of (washing up type) sponge so it doesn't go everywhere causing slippage.

The silicone oil I find is best I find but if the leak is bad grease is used but of course grease transfers easier and can hold grit and other debris, bear in mins some will transfer to the glass.

If you want to be posh you can get more expensive Gummi something (gummi is German for rubber) oor IIRC there's so more evener posher and expensive Porsche type stuff.

If you have any AutoGlym Bumper & Trim Gel you could try that.

ETA:

Sorry posted on thr e other question just noticed this with photo's looks like the window isn't going right up to the seal or the seal is broken up inside the cup part of the seal try silicone sray NOT WD 40 as it will swell the rubber seals replacing this seal is a a lot of work as it's atteched down in the door frame and i think it's a whole frame part not just a rubber seal but might be wrong

Thank you nta16 and Murdockman.

Now on to the second leak issue (hopefully there are no more!). So the car was delivered today and when going through the boot I noticed this little lake:

I rang the dealer who said if I could find the source of the leak they would pay whatever was needed to have it fixed. So I shut my wife in the boot (who hasn’t wanted to do that!) and started hosing the outside. I soon became aware the rear driver’s side light cluster doesn’t fit flush to the body like it does on the other side. See video:

Now I’m 80% certain this is the only cause of the leak, but I don’t yet know these cars….and maybe there’s another we’ll known ingress point. Do keep in mind my Fabia is the estate version, so any well known ingress points may be different on mine, since I assume the rear panels and joints will be slightly different.

Actually, I’ve just realised, I’d have probably been better posting this under a new/separate heading. Not doing too well as a forum newbie. Doh!

Yes that was a good idea,  Don't worry about mistakes I make them just about every post.

If you became a Freedom member you could have unlimited (I think) time to edit your posts so you could have edited your post before last to exclude the stuff for your other thread - and thank you for your thanks.  🙂

ETA: (there you se it works) Perhaps it was only your water leak to the estate boot that has caused on your RHS rear window seal and you don't need to do anything about this if the boot leak is sorted (?).
