Lol. Daddy says Max should be allowed to win!

Which RedBull was faster in...

FP1? Perez

FP2? Perez

FP3? Perez

Qualifying? Perez

Best Race Lap? Perez

25 points to Checo without any argument I think.

I wonder if any teammate has ever wiped the floor with Max like this before?

Perez & Leclerc topped todays practice, Merc's 1.2 & 1.6 seconds off the pace

Good news for the Ch4 coverage looks like it's Lee McKenzie back as lead presenter for this race

Just the start of watching the highlights on poverty TV / Channel 4 is a joy compared to the usual presentation.

Just to the point from 2 knowledgeable people.

Not missing 3 or more of the ones that are usually there bumping their gums.

A Scotsman, a Welshman & an Englishman and the occasional Irishman.

It's just the Welshman that is an embarressment, he just thinks he's a funny comedian, asks inappropriate questions and then buts in when someone who has genuine knowledge asks a question with some inane comments and you can see the face of the team principal or driver "who is this idiot"

Strange DC wasn't on the CH4 coverage as I've just seen pictures of him in Baku with Sky's Natalie Pinkham ??

Isn't he working for a foreign channel now?

I thought he was one of the co owners of Whisper productions who provide the CH4 coverage ??

That's as maybe but I've seen him on screen this year working for Ziggo Sport, the Dutch TV channel. Certainly had their logos on his shirt

At least they have a differently able presenter (#BillyWhizz), and the new pitlane guy maybe ticks more than one minority box?

You forgot the awful Irishman

I never stayed to see him as the Tour De France coverage started at 1pm and that is 3 weeks of coverage now apart from the rest days.

So, given that everyone is apparently OK, other than sneauflaix, what excuse was there for the length of the stoppage today?

The possibility that it would all have to close down, everyone leave & the flags even going to half mast.

Lucky it was the first lap and the car only cleared the tyre barrier.

At full speed that could clearly have got through the debris fence into the crowd.

I wonder if they'll have a re-think on the gravel traps as the car was relatively fine till it hit the gravel and that's what flipped it into the horrifying rolls ??

Many of the newer and/or heavily revised circuits have largely removed gravel traps and replaced with tarmac run of areas as it greatly reduces the risk of roll over (obviously in Zhou’s incident he was already upside down before he reached the gravel trap) also it would stop that hopping/skipping effect (and further tumbling) that caused Zhou to bounce over the tyre wall.
Obviously every conceivable crash can’t be planned for. But removal of gravel traps is well proven to improve safety in most incidents.

I imagine some research around a series of layers which might slow a halo riding car but also have a suitable effect on a car on their tyres would be a good thing.

Perhaps a first tyre wall close to the circuit and then gravel then a lattery tyre wall and strong last gasp fence.

Either way, it's something that will need looking into by those with the equipment to do so.

The gravel traps in general do the job they're intended to do ie slow the cars impact with the tyre wall and so reduce the G force to the driver, in this case unfortunately it resulted in flipping the car and I think from looking at the pictures the biggest problem was the distance from the tyre wall to the ultimate catch fence, if it was at least a cars width away the car would of in a better position to extricate the driver ?

As has already been said and is obvious in the footage . The car had already overturned well before the gravel trap. In much more commonly encountered “offs” where any racing car is still on its wheels tarmac run-offs are by far and away the safer option in most instances. Gravel traps cause cars to dig in and overturn. Just have a look at any crash footage from the ‘Chase’ corner at Mount Panorama circuit Bathurst and see the monster crashes that cars digging in and overturning due to the high speed entry to gravel trap. Yes gravel traps do have their place but not on high speed corners. The exit area of turn one at Silverstone has been tarred for many years. Perhaps now the entry gravel trap will be tarred over too. In this case Zhou likely wouldn’t have bounce over, he merely would have just slid into the tyre barrier and stopped.

Interesting afternoon.

Stewarding getting really intrusive in some cases though.

I mean,

fining all the podium trio?

endless track limits policing?

penalties for daring to race other drivers?

Nanny-state rubbish.

Nanny-state rubbish.

It almost feels like the FIA is trying to punish the drivers by over zealously implementing rules that have been in place for years but implemented sensibly up to now - maybe for pointing out  so publicly the appalling state of race management in 2021?

I can see Vettel walking away at the end of the season after this https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/62108286

I can also see the FIA banning or restricting the use of the flares used by the Verstappen fans due them causing low visibility problems and likely to be even worse at the Zandvoort or Spa events ?

The circuit is the grey area between the 2 white lines. It is not red and white stripes or green stuff, even if your name is Max Verstappen.
