sports CAT

Featured Replies

hi all,

just wondering how much of a difference a sports cat will make to power and torque on a 1.8T engine?

why do they give an increase in torque and power?

thanks :)

Hi Kenny

The way it will increse the bhp is the flow of the internals.

Standard cats have about 400 cells in the internals where sports ones have about 200.These are like honeycombes on the inside of the cat.

This then means that the flow of air is quicker.

It is hard to determin how much bhp you can gain without knowing a little more about the car.

But it is usually around 8-10bhp

Does this help?

However it should be borne in mind that a free flowing exhaust can lose you some torque.

I saw some interesting graphs yesterday of a REVO'd Golf 2.0TFSI

Mapped to stage one and then mapped to stage two with a full Miltek.

Although BHP was up slightly on the stage two, torque was down.

These were official REVO graphs, not personal.

thanks sarah, very much appreciated

No problem mate.

Can explain it better with my hands.

But at least you understand a bit.

You would be better with the 2.5" than the 3" if you are keeping the OEM turbo

Sarah

Kenny,

also remember you'll need a cat come MOT time.....I have a 100cel cat with my IHI...no probs at all with MOT.

Previously had a Milltek dp and 200cel cat connected to a Jetex cat back......not massive gains in power but definately torque you could feel.

Sarah why would a 2.5 be better than a 3" i though that as far as turbo'd cars work the bigger the pipe the better?

Its all to do with back pressure.

The 2.5" one is a higher bhp rated too.
