Rear Wiper Motor on vRS Estate

Featured Replies

I am looking for a little advice from you all knowing Mk1 Gurus.

My rear wiper motor became sporadic then eventually died. I checked the wiring and voltage at the connector which gives me the required 12v etc. I got hold of a second hand motor which I was assured worked before being removed from the car (yes I know, not everyone is honest !!!). I have changed them over and still no joy. Now before I return the motor is there anything else that could be causing the issue.

I know the wiper is not supposed to operate when the tailgate is open ( or did I imagine that) so must be connected to the boot lock mechanism. My interior boot lights have stopped working and also the power outlet too. Could this be part of the wiper motor problem..??

Any advice is welcome...

On my old Octy estate the central brake light kept coming up as failed and the wiper was intermittant, and when I did the wiring for a tow bar on it I found 3 multi pin connectors down behind the left rear light cluster near the CD player and they were in a terrible state corroded pins/sockets and when I went to replace them there was "black wire" corrosion on most of the wires making it a nightmare to solder in replacement wires, eventually won the day and all the tailgate electrics worked fine

stupid but... have you checked the fuse didnt go pop when the old was being intermittent and thats why it died?

I shall have another look there, I had the usual indoor pool in that corner from the crappy washer pipe joint, and a leak from the bolts that hold the CD changer, which 12 months later is still dry as a bone.. which with an 18 year old car is a win... Thanks

There is never a stupid question because sometimes the simplest things are missed... I have had all the fuses out and they are fine, when I check for current at the connector there is power.. More investigation is needed.....

Mines gone, never liked rear wipers anyway so deleted it lol. Kill all wipers have a kit, you just need to be ontop of them with the postage in, mine took 5 months lol
