What type of infotainment do I have?

Featured Replies

As above lads how do I find out which it is. It's either a Columbus or Amundsen, going by the book. Car is '17 L&K MK3 Superb. Have I missed something obvious 🙈

A picture of the radio display would help us?

Columbus is a 9.2 inch screen with full glass display and buttons on the left

Amundsen is a 8 inch display with buttons both sides.

That looks like the older Columbus to me. A pic of the head unit in the glovebox will help.

@Morgan78 - that's a Columbus (MIB2) unit.

L&K models r usually fitted with Columbus.

I have the same.

I'll get that, in the glovebox it takes 2 SD cards and cd/dvd.

i've got an AAWireless device, that's connected to my USB port.

my phone wirelessly connects to it, allowing wireless Android Auto!  its brilliant.

i can keep my phone in the wireless charging pad in the phonebox, if needed :)

Columbus comes in 3 flavours:-

- MIB2 = 8" screen, with buttons

- MIB2.5 = 9.2" screen, with no buttons

- MIB3 = 9.2" screen, with no buttons

Is there a way to tell the difference between a MIB2.5 and MIB3?

i'm not 100% sure how to tell the difference, but from what i've read before:-

- if MIB3, the glovebox unit has no CD/DVD slot, nor does it have SD-Card slots.

MIB2/MIB2.5 units have these.

- MIB3 units support USB-C ports.

MIB2/MIB2.5 units only support USB-A ports

- MIB3 units support wireless CarPlay/AndroidAuto.

MIB2/2.5 units do not support this natively.

i don't know the part number differences.

I must have MIB2.5. No physical buttons and dvd/SD card in the glovebox.

thanks

MIB3 will have no SD Card slots or CD/DVD slot in the unit in the glove box. It'll also be the one that spontaneously crackles, locks on mute and does other strange things 🙄. I had mine reflashed with an updated software release at the dealer a couple of weeks ago to try and fix it.

JR RS I have a Bluetooth receiver I have in my X5 that I use to play Spotify through the aux, I presume I can do this with mine through the female port beneath the cig lighter in my pic. Does the AAwireless system just provide graphics to the screen, as well as Android auto interaction.?

With the AAWireless, u get exactly the same experience as u do get with ur phone cabled to the USB port.

As for Spotify, play via Bluetooth to ur car's infotainment.

U get much control than using AUX.

With Bluetooth, u can skip tracks using the infotainment and/or steering wheel controls.

Likewise, u can see the song being played on Spotify.

Here's me  now wondering if there is something similar for wireless apple carplay?
