Noisy Heater / Aircon?

Featured Replies

Hi, has anyone noticed the high pitched whistle from the climatronic (heater/aircon) when its on, even on a very low setting? Any ideas on how to reduce the noise? Ive got a new Mk IV VRS, I had a 2013 Superb before and it never made a noise. Its quite noticeable when the engines off...

Just a thought - check that all of the vents are open

Make sure they are either FULLY open or FULLY closed, if one is ever so slightly open then that will cause a whistle.

aye, tried that. the whistle / hum noise is there when the aircons not even on... it sounds similar to a  high pitched laptop fan. I'll keep switching things on and off and opening and closing vents to see if it stops. I'll probably end up taking the bloody dash off to find it!

Hi I've got the same problem, did you solve it?

I haven't checked all the vents yet but will tomorrow.

Nope, I've tried all the vents, every combo on the clima system. It's a fan somewhere that is permanently on. High pitched whistle like an old 486 PC. Very annoying.

Thanks for the reply.

Mines a new car as well and I first noticed it whilst just sitting in the car trying to get to grips with some of the settings etc. My first Skoda and new car in many years. I'm very sensitive to this sort of noise. Initially I think I turned off or set to minimum the climate control fans and thought it was just normal for the car. I have still only driven the car a few times and noticed it again last time I sat in the car. Tomorrow I will check more as it is there when you first switch on the car.I didn't notice when driving because of the artificial engine noise and the radio on.

Update.

The annoying high pitch noise turns on/off with the "Clima" button on the info screen.(blowers off A/C button off or on)

Definitely not the blowers or vent settings. Sounds like its a pump turning on.

This is without the engine running just the dash on etc.

Please could anyone with a vRS confirm if they have this noise or if it should be silent.

Ive been back and forth with my new VRS to the dealer, mostly about the infotainment system not working and the heater being permanently on furnace temperature. They did a wholesale software update for that but this is something they havent addressed. I'll ask them again. Dont get me started on the lack of travel updates on the sat nav or the lethal cruise control braking system!!!

Sorry to hear you are having all these issues. I hope you get them addressed soon.

I bought via a broker so don't have a dealer as such .Build date was December I think, only had car a month.

I don't drive it during the week and haven't done any long trips so slightly anxious that there are lots of issues potentially to discover.

I'll have to go to a dealer and ask if I can listen to another car for comparison.

Also my previous car was 12 years old and basic in comparison so I'm a bit bewildered by all the tech and features at the moment. Since reading on here all the issues people have had/got I feel like I should be looking for problems rather than enjoying the car. I'll try the cruise control at some point before our summer holiday, to try and get some confidence in it. Haven't used the car enough to try out the heating or most things so fingers crossed. I have found the speed limiter - very useful with average speed cameras. Car does tell me to take foot of accelerator occasionally,I guess it knows the speed limits in some areas from gps.

Have no idea how to use the SatNav.

Please post back if you ever get an answer on this as will I.

The Climatronic modules do have an internal fan whose function I have forgotten but it isn't for cooling of the components, I think it might be for drawing in cabin air for the sensors.

Noise from them is a known issue, sometimes cause by a foreign body (leaf or insulation) blocking the airflow drawn into the fan creating a whistle.

I would switch the Climatronic to ECO wait for the noise to stop and then give it a good beating!

Its a great car to drive and very practical as I am sure you will agree. The tech does take some time to get to but its worth it in the end. :)

UPDATE: I took my VRS back into the dealer to check out the problem. They didnt give me a reason for the whistle but when I left the forecourt, no whistle! Great I thought, job done. However by the time I got home (15 mins later) it was back. No fix. So looks like I will be going back again.... grrrr.

Did a solution ever get found for this issue? Just encountered the same whistling sound.

Hi, i just picked up a 21 plate Octavia and didn't notice this but having driven a short while i can hear this whistling and it is rather annoying. Reading this thread makes me sad as i was hoping it was a leaf or something.

Has anyone had any luck in resolving?

I assume you don’t mean the whine from the electric water pump running after the engine is switched off? Just checking.

Hi.

Thanks for response.

Noz it is clearly connected to the Aircon on/off after playing today and seems independent of fan speed.

It is a high pitched whistle/whine. The Aircon seems to work fine but I have read it might require regassing. Not sure how that manifests itself in the noise though.

Rather than spending cash in doing the gas it would be great if others can confirm or provide alternatives.

No such noise on my car sorry.

I have this issue too...all I could find till now is that it might be needed a regas in the system

Thanks for reply. I'm curious if anyone has tried this and found it resolves the issue

Had mine regassed about 18 months ago, reduced the whine when the AC was working hard and made it more effective.

Update

After regas everything come back to normal, even more effective

70g of gas remaining on my 2021 model

We have a 2024 1.5etsi and the AC failed on it three times when it was brand new. Each time the AC didn’t blow cold there would be a whistle/crackle behind the dash which would only go away if clima was turned off. After a re-gas then condenser seals then finally a new condenser it’s been fixed touch wood! But the noise was the low gas in the system each time. We were unlucky that we had an actual component fault which seems rare on this model but it does highlight the need to keep gas levels topped up
