Superb buying advice

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I'm actively looking to buy a Superb 2.0 TDI in the UK. I have been very busy checking which one would be best for towing a caravan about 1600kg. My conclusion was estate, 4x4 DSG gearbox but out of my budget. I'm now looking for a hatchback FWD ideally with DSG gearbox which seems so much cheaper.

Also i have found out these DSG is very reliable in with towing but oil changes must be at 40k.

I'm extremely confused regarding oil and filter changes as most cars i have been looking at had their 1st service is about 18k,  but i thought it was every 10k.

Any advice on the above i would really appreciate it.

Thank you.

Hi there, I think the general consensus regarding oil changes is to change it every 10k miles especially if your putting the engine under heavy load. However there are 2 types of servicing, the first is a fixed interval option where they are done every 10k or 1 year, the second is a variable interval plan where you can go up to 20k (I think) or 2 years between services. I hope this is of some help.

Hi, thank you for your reply. I just don't understand why skoda superb have 2 types of servicing, is it normally every other one or you can choose how you feel!!!

I purchased a brand new citroen relay van in 2014 and servicing is every 30k or 2 years what ever comes 1st. I get the oil changed every 15k which i feel is the best bet!!

I think these servicing options are pretty normal across the vw range, for example my mum had a 2010 1.6tdi golf and she had the flexible service interval option so it only got serviced every 20k miles. Again its always worth keeping in mind oil is cheap, engines and turbos aren't so I err on the side of caution. Also, I found it an absolute b***er to remove the turbo on my 2.0tdi superb so it's probably not something you want going wrong.

Different journey types put different strains. eg. I do lots and lots of short journeys and the car wanted a service every 8 months, changed to fixed and do it at 12 months but i am potentially doing harm. i suspect soot levels in the oil but i am no expert.

The 18k services is to entice fleet buyers

I always do every 10k

Also my DSG Superb estate 4x4  is great for towing as-long as you have it coded correctly for car which then adapts to towing setting for abs and stability

I'm not sure but didn't bmw get into a bit of hot water for offering 18k service intervals as it was found to damage engines or seriously shorten their service life?

Remember these service figures are to make it less costly to own, especially if your buying as a company fleet. If you want it to last change the oil at 10k.

Thank you for the advice and I have finally bought a Superb 2014 plate today, How much do noramlly pay for a cambelt and renew the oil and filter DSG gearbox. I'm planning to do it very soon.

Skoda dealers have a set price for these to be done +£100 for the water pump to be changed at same time.

@Michael888  Welcome.

Which engine did you get was it the 2.0 TDI and 6 speed DSG?

Fixed Service & Maintenance prices on 3-10 year old cars on Fixed Service Regimes done at Participating Dealers might have changed or be changing in 2022.

There can be cheaper prices at Dealerships or maybe better still at VW Specialist Independents.
