Wireless Android Auto

Featured Replies

Hello all, I just picked up my new 1.5 TSI Octavia Style 4th gen yesterday. I have 10" Bolero infotainment system and for now everything is snappy and good working except when trying to connect Android Auto via wireless. I have Samsung S20 with Android 11, and Android Auto installed and Wireless Android Auto enabled. On infotainment always asks me to connect via USB cable (it works via USB!), but I want to connect is wirelessly as some people with their new Octavia's are able. On my mobile Android Auto shows that Wireless Android Auto on Skoda is available. I don't see any options to turn on Wi-FI in my Octavia, just Bluetooth. Please see pictures and give me your thoughts. Thank you!

I'm pretty sure that Wireless Android Auto CAN work with Bolero infotainment, as Columbus "System" you have additional voice functions, GPS with integrated Škoda Maps and Traffic signs recognition... Can someone confirm this?

This happened on my mothers Tiguan too, what helped was updating the Android Auto app on the phone.

about that... @zetzet might be wright - I've heard this before.
Check on your phone for an Android update - Samsung released Android 12 for the entire S20 series. It's now rolling out for the  S10's. With Android 12 you're sure to have the latest AndroidAuto...

Interested to see the resolution to this one, as my car is coming soon and my phone's USB connection is broken - I will be relying on wireless only! (I have to charge wirelessly at home). I too will only have the Bolero, thinking that would be enough. Does anyone know what the official position is one wireless to Bolero?

The price lists in all languages say wireless android works. Basically 10" screen always has wireless android auto.

I just updated Android Auto app on my Samsung S20+ to version 7.3.120244, but still cannot connect wirelessly. Next I will try updating to Android 12 and see if that will work.

In the car have you scanned for WiFi or turned on your phones WiFi?

Yes, but on my Android mobile I don't see any Wi-Fi signal from Škoda, or vice versa. On infotainment in my Škoda I can manually turn on/off bluetooth, but I don't have any setting or any mention of wi-fi.

Do you have Smartlink?

Yes, of course, this is the screen when I click on SmartLink:

and this is the screen when I click on "Android Auto" :

If I connect via USB like it suggests, everything works.. But that is not the question. The question is why it can't work with "Wireless Android Auto" (using wi-fi or bluetooth, not usb) ?

Definitely WiFi in the car?

I would suggest getting your phones firmware updated via the settings menu on your phone or Smart Switch.

I know that Android 12 is available for the S20 range as that's what I have have been using for a few weeks now.

After that you're probably going to find another version of Android Auto.

Also your phone locked or unlocked aka sim free. Check in Settings.

Make sure the Hotspot is on in the car and you are connecting to it using the QR code.

Then try and connwct using the phone.

It should work.

I am using Samsung S7 wirelessly on Bolero 10"

It is possible.

Maybe for security reasons you have to use the QR code to connect to it?

Both WiFi and Bluetooth have to be on on the phone at the same time for wireless android auto, do you have both on?

If so then that's really going to cane the battery life, your going to need to have a fairly good charger attached to compensate for the power being drawn.

Based on my commute my note 10+ would be completely flat after about 3 hours, a decent wireless charger is needed for longer trips if you can't charge at the other end.

I think that a wireless charger may struggle to maintain the battery as an S20 will only charge wirelessly at 10w.

You're going to need something else, just to keep the battery level stable a wireless charger isn't going to cut it. I use waze and have my S20+ on a wireless charger attached to a Brodit Clip and it struggles to maintain the battery level.

Works fine for me and15watt wireless charging. Admittedly, I don't think it's always quite fast enough, I'm sometimes 2 or 3 percent down when I get to work (35 mins) but it's a small price to pay for wireless android auto.

This QR on SmartLink screen on my pictures is just a link to Skoda website (http://go.skoda.eu/connectivity-smartlink)

Yes, I tried again. Bluetooth and WiFi are both ON. I don't see any wi-fi network on my phone when I'm sitting in my Škoda and messing with infotainment. I tried turning on wi-fi hotspot on my mobile and other stuff but nothing. I couldn't find any word in infotainment menues about Wi-Fi or "Wireless Android Auto"... 😞

I'd suggest having a word with your dealer to see if actually exists on your car and if it does, has it been activated.

You don't need to connect to WiFi to get wireless android auto. The procedure is to connect with Bluetooth and then you get a prompt asking if you want android auto.

Actually, you do need to have both WiFi and BT connected so that AA starts working.

On your Bolero, select Settings.

Then look for the WiFi options - you must have the hotspot on and visible (not hidden).

In the same WiFi settings you should be having the option to fast connect to the WLan using the QR code, which needs to be scanned by your phone.

The QR shouldnt send you to a website, but to attempt to connect to a wifi connection.

If you're going on a long journey what is stopping you from just plugging it in then? Wireless android auto is great for every day commute. Also remember that the screen is off during it, screen is still using most of the battery on a phone.
