With summer almost on the horizon i'm looking into improving my fabia vrs......... Not planning any power upgrades just improving things and see how i go............... Had a quick look underneath checking something else and bottom boost pipes is quite oily and looking kinda sad and old whats peoples suggestions on replacements ive seen some ebay specials hard pipes has anyone fitted these any good/better ???????

The bottom pipe (fog light) area is seeping oil so im guessing its seal is not that good, and i try to either replace with genuine, or very good aftermarket parts and dont mind paying extra in the name of improvement. Im presuming solid metal pipes will add longevity to the mix..... Totally agree with what your saying btw rather confusingly

The lowest connection point in the boost pipework leaks oil on every turbo car I've ever seen, weirdly the oil is actually acting as a sealant preventing air from blowing past the seal, so, no your boost pipe is not leaking.

 

An enormous amount of engineering effort goes into the manufacturers standard pipework on a turbo car but there's no realistic way to duplicate that work in the aftermarket space so aftermarket kits are kludges of aluminium tube, silicon pipework and mikalor clamps so that the end user can cut and trim bits for a bespoke fit.

 

A hard pipe kit isn't an improvement unless the standard pipework is knackered and the cost of OE parts exceeds the cost of an aftermarket kit, but as ever, it's your money to do whatever you like with and it certainly won't do any harm if you get it to fit properly.

@sepulchravegreat reply and fair point fairly new to diy on cars and the skoda brand. Thanks for taking time out to square things up 

New after market boost pipes (top and bottom) were worth the money for me. £300. By 60k miles the joints leaked. No real signs (no blackening or oil) other than lowest point at the pipe to intercooler joint. 

 

New horse clips alone won't work.

 

Smoke on acceleration (due to lack of air reaching engine that the MAF sensor thought was getting there).

 

Acceleration improved a lot and mpg slightly. Like a different car 

 

Have a look at Dark side in Yorkshire. They now sell a side mount intercooler similar to that fitted OEM. 

 

I got mine from SFS Luton who made the boost pipes specially, not off the shelf as the car is obsolete , little demand. The joints are jubilee clips, so no leaks at metal hard pipe to silicone pipes.

 

Forge used to make a FMIC with custom pipes that avoided cutting up the crash bar behind the front bumper. Again obsolete car now, so no longer made.
