Rear washer blocked and now broken, can it be replaced?

Featured Replies

My rear washer blocked up, tried cleaning the jets which didn't work.

I removed the boot liner and tried to clean by removing the pipe, still blocked.

Then I tried to remove the plastic 90 degree bend into the motor, I've cleared the blockage but snapped the plastic piece. Ooops.

Does anyone know if it can be replaced? It's the inner part of the clip, not the outer. If so do you know the part number?

Thanks

Hi Phil,

Unfortunately I can't help on the  inner part of the clipper or the part number?

I have exactly the same issue with water coming out from near the rear camera and nothing from the rear wiper jets. I've removed the rear wiper jets on the wiper arm but still not water.

I was thinking of attempting to do what you did and was wondering :

How easy was it to remove the boot liner ?

Once you removed the liner,  did you need to remove anything else to get to the washer pipes etc ?

Thanks

I’ve got the same issue now. I’ve removed the washer jets and they’re clear and there’s nothing coming out of the new exposed pipe, so I’m assuming it’s blocked at the 90 degree elbow; there’s no water appearing anywhere else in the boot or from the camera / number plate light apertures.

I had the same issue recently and fixed it. In my case water was only coming out near the rear number plate and not the rear wiper.

When removing the white pipe connectors at the end of the washer pipes which attach onto the elbows etc, turn them 90 degree clockwise then pull the pipe out. If you do not turn them 90 degrees first they will break.

When refitting turn back the connector 90 degrees anti-clockwise then push on to lock.

I managed to use a piece of wire to unblock the pipe. As I live in a very hard water area I am now using cheap bottled water (very soft - 30-50 ppm in terms of calcium) rather than tap water so hopefully will not get this issue again.

Thanks for that. I’m away from home for a couple of weeks at the moment so I don’t have my trim removers to get the cover off the back of the tailgate, so I think I’ll give it a go from the outside, by popping the jets off again and then pushing a thin cable tie down the pipe to see if that un-gunges it. Bloody annoying to say the least!

May be this can help... I didn't catch which part, you want to replace 🤔.

Thanks for this, mines the hatchback which sprays from a different location, I don't suppose you have the picture for the hatch do you?

@PhilD2 No sorry. I don’t have specific view for the hatchback. But they rarely give specific view for hatchback or Combi version on this online ETKA.

Nevertheless you can check on the last column on the right, whether the P/N applies for Combi or Hatchback version.

So I removed the jet unit and poked a thin cable tie down the feed tube but it was too short to reach the bottom. I got a much longer but thicker tie and cut it down the centre to reduce its width. I poked this gently up and down the pipe hitting the bottom of the 90 degree angle and after a few goes, hey presto, the water bubbled-up the pipe and out of the top! The car had been standing for 6 months following me

rescinding my license following a suspected stroke, so I’m sure it was just blocked by the screen wash crystalising at the bend. Anyway, works perfectly now and thoroughly soaked a couple of people on the NS and OS pavements earlier this afternoon; oops… I really must re-adjust them jets!

Well done numskull. Great result. At least you didn’t have to open up the rear tailgate.

Yeah that filled me with dread! At crossed my mind when looking at PhilD2 pic was that the 90 degree joint was probably at the lowest point of the pipework, so it was probable that any blockage was there, so just a lucky guess really.

In your previous post, you said You removed the jet unit.  Would you explain how you did this, please (assuming hatchback), as I don’t want to force/break anything.

Thanks in advance

Hi, it looks like it twists to remove, however I tried to remove carefully and it snapped.

I've tried to glue it, but with the pressure it doesn't seal.

I never did find one sold separately and don't want to buy a whole motor unit

I should probably 3d print some.

I would leave it in place and remove the pipe up to the 90 degree and try and clean with a washer jet cleaning wire to try and clear it.

Thanks PhilD2, (and numskull), I had another go, and managed to prise the jet elbow off the pipe, seems it’s an interference fit - the car’s an Octavia, but seems the same set up.  I pushed a short length of Strimmer plastic line down the pipe, I thought that couldn’t cause any damage,  and fortunately it cleared the blockage.

FWIW, it went in about 3” till it hit an obstruction, presumably the 90 deg bend

Yeah, it just pushes on. I’m pleased you’ve cleared the blockage. The jets are a bloody nightmare to set-up.

And I’ve just discovered ours is blocked again and was working fine last week.
