Featured Replies

can anyone advise please, i was just coming home which involved around 4 miles normal roads around 8 miles of motorway then about 4 miles normal rods home i noticed the temp needle never got up to normal temp i.e 90c only got up to about 80c which i thought was strange never had any problems with temp it always creeps up to 90c right on the middle then stays there all day long never moves just before i got home tonight obviously keeping my eye on the temp now i stopped at a shop and left it ticking over, when i got back in the car the temp had gone down to 60c drove home another 2 miles normal roads and temp only went up to 65c. the heater was blowing worm air, and no dash lights any ideas would be appreciated?

It’s the DSG stat most likely had it myself and so have loads of others. Easy to replace and cheap. Do a search part numbers and instructions are on this forum.

right done a bit of research and the problem seems to be pointing at the dsg thermostat, situated under the air box.

thanks very much for a point in the right direction!

p.s i did read that it is important to get the right thermostat for your car i.e stat opens at the correct temp!

dose any one know what is the correct temp for my car ?

and what make of part am i better looking for?

old post for you

For my 170 2011 CFGB OE part number I bought the MAHLE one for about £25 from Autodoc. With all things brexit this is likely not to be the case. eBay has loads come back from this part number including Mahle 1K0 121 113 A

am i right in thinking that (g13) is the correct antifreeze for my car?

or is it (g12+) ?

problem is i just looked at the header tank on my car and it looks like a (watered down pink) and the one that on line sites are recommending are (purple)?

which one is correct?

I only lost about a cup of coolant when changed the stat. In any case I have a bottle of the appropriate g12/g13 pink stuff whatever is compatible.
Hopefully someone will be along shortly to confirm. You can top up with water also as the coolant is mixed with water when replaced ie when you have a cambelt/water pump change .

only had cam belt water pump and tensioners + antifreeze done a couple of weeks ago.

it gives you so many choses in colour so i had a look under the bonnet and its like a watered down pink so i didn't want to go and get yellow or what ever and its not compatible!

need a little help chaps looking at the header tank on the car the colour of the coolant is like a water down pink but i have been advised on line to use ebay number 173796554234 sorry don't know how to put a link up.

i am now thinking that the garage that did my cam belt and water pump may have put the wrong coolant in  ?

drove car today and temp needle was working fine worked its way up to 90c and stayed there so how is it working ok if the inline thermostat was faulty?

cheers kev!

Thermostats can stick and unstick themselves.

Did it take long to reach 90?

  • Author

no it took the time i would expect really, i have ordered the new thermostat any way so i will be getting that fitted any way the only problem i have now is getting the correct anti freeze to put in i may have to do a full antifreeze and water change.

i have not long had the cam belt and water pump done and the garage put some fresh antifreeze in then, problem is the antifreeze that the garage has put in his pink and when going on line to order a gallon of it they are all saying ( yellow or violet ) all i know is it is supposed to be ( G13/G12+) ?

Got a phone call today telling me i had ordered the wrong part for my car dsg thermostat, so i went back to take a look at the threads i have been reading on this site, where i had got the part number from (1K0121113A) every time i put a search in for this part and give the details for my car it tells me that the part is not suitable for my vehicle,

I wonder if it's a Superb 4x4 thing? :-) Not the same part but when I recently ordered a front coil spring giving my registration I later then started getting emails to say they'd sent the wrong spring when if fact it was the correct one !!!!

  • Author

it very well could be a 4x4 thing, i don't know why it would be though. the part i have order has got the exact same part number in its listing as the one that was supposedly wrong so god knows.

Had this problem on my 14 Superb, ordered the part using the above number from the local Skoda dealer. Took about an hour, buy a cheap pair of hose clamp pliers from ebay to make this job easier. Lost about half a litre of coolant. Needle back to 90c in about five minutes, nice warm heating and a slicker gear shift. Hoping for a touch more Mpg as well, engine and gearbox not pushing thick fluid anymore. Thanks to the brain trust here for the info and guidance.

Hi

Just trying to sort my Suberb atm and has a similar issue.

Temp guage barely moves up at all but heaters blow nice and warm, if i turn heater down it sometimes goes up but wont stay consistant at all.

Also my MPG sucks, and i mean sucks!

54 liter is getting me around 415 miles !!!

Is going this DSG temp thing going to help with these issues?

Thanks
Voodood

My own experience is that when my DSG 'stat failed, there was a hit in fuel consumption which you can understand as everything on a modern diesel is optimised to run at correct temperature. But it was maybe 10% down from recollection. I have a 170 4x4 that I use like a van, always absolutely full of my work tools etc (maybe 250kg) with just the driver's seat empty (until the 120kg dead weight sits in it :-) and routinely get indicated 50+ mpg on a long motorway cruise. But when 'stat was playing up, was more like an indicated 45 mpg on same journey. But your figures suggest more like a true 35 mpg. So sorting the 'stat has to help but wouldn't suprise me if you don't have another issue affecting fuel consumption, sorry.
