VSDS vs OBDEleven

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm thinking of purchasing one. I'm not going to be doing any major surgery on my car adding modules. I'll just be using it for checking and turning a few things on/off. I don't own a laptop although I may have wireless coverage in my driveway.

VCDS is 700 (Wireless is about 900) and OBDEleven is 230

Am I correct that neither give you access to things like setting fuel rail pressure etc? Only modules and configuration.

Any regrets with OBDEleven?

VCDs is more comprehensive gives the best functionality.

However OBD11 is great for quickness and allows you do most mods with messing up the parameters!

I have both, I mostly use OBD11 for the reason above.

Fuel rail pressures, to view - no problems with either.

To modify.... well its not as simple as just changing a number and involves a lot more software, hardware and let alone the knowledge required.

If you don't have a laptop then I'd go for OBDeleven.

I used to have VCDS.

I now have OBDEleven.

I can do the same things on the OBDEleven device as I could with VCDS.

VCDS is more cumbersome to use, i.e. laptop and cable.

OBDEleven is a lot more convenient because wireless.

It is a lot more cheaper too.

Personally I prefer the VCDS  interface more - feels more "robust" in comparison.

OBD11 ordered.

I've been trying to work out how the credits work. Have done quite a bit of searching and reading around and understand the credits get out towards some automated coding but I'm trying to understand roughly how much credit certain mods would cost. I don't suppose there is a price list anywhere?

I have a MY20 SUPERB IV... I'm reading mixed reports on whether Obdeleven would work on it?

Pretty sure it tells you the “price” on the app button.

Im sure I sound like a broken record, but, I’d be ignoring the apps and just code yourself. There are more than a few threads on here, with even more elsewhere, where people have used apps to make a change and it’s gone haywire. You’ll have no idea what changes the app has actually made and it’s just a pain to sort.

So, to conclude. Ignore the credits, ignore the apps and code yourself using the guides on here.

I wouldnt be using the 'one time code' functions at all. You have no record of what is actually being done if things go wrong

+1 for not using the Apps in OBDEleven.

U have no control of wat changes it actually makes, and it doesn't really clean itself up properly if u choose to revert a change.

I only ever do Adaptations or Long Coding.

This way, u know each and every single step.

Can you do a system save / backup prior to changes?

Yes. There is also an audit log that’s auto generated so you can see, step by step, what the parameter was before the change and after the change.

That's good to know. I'd been happily using the Obd11 apps thinking that was the safer option than messing around myself! Luckily no issues from the minor changes I've done so far (on 3 cars!)

Works fine on my Passat GTE which is the same platform bar the infotainment on yours being mib3 over mib2. I'm not don't anything other than sorting any codes that have popped up and changing a few parameters. When I get more time I'll dig into some more stuff on the lights etc. Not seen anything so far that would suggest it didn't work.
