Fan heater temperamental

Featured Replies

Not been on for a while but here goes

My Fabia Elegance heater fan is playing up. It is working in that it is blowing air, slowly, but when you try to turn it up or down nothing happens. Then, at no given time, it will blow full blast for about 5/10 seconds then drop back to the way it was. This will happen throughout my drive, temperature settings make no difference as it will blow at the appropriate heat setting.

Is this something I can fix or is it mechanic time?

You can fix it, you need a new fan speed resistor pack, it's been covered on here many, many, many times so just do a search for the 'how to' guide.

Thanks

Did try looking but obviously under the wrong title.

Not so sure, the search function here often gives poor results imo and the "how to's" should ideally be vehicle model specific instead of being grouped across all vehicle models, would be easy to find all Fabia "how to" related stuff in this Forum for example, instead of trawling through pages which could mean nothing but happen to have the "search term" you entered in it.

anyway........this is what your after

Dude, if you put the word 'resistor' in the search you can select that it only search the Fabia 1 forum using a drop down box.

Internets 101 guys. Come on.

I did as you suggested, It still never came up with a "how to" that I could see, to which you could point someone straight to, just loads of different topics regarding those that needed or had swapped the resistor, but nothing any good.

Thats why I suggested that if there was a topic at the front page of the forum, ie a "How to" topic specific to Fabia II, it would be even easier for anyone to find as there would not be "that" many topics.

anyway this was on page 3 or 4 of searching, which is probably the most useful thing I found.

That's why I asked this question:

Not sure. It's an Elegance model with a lcd display for the temperature and fan speed etc.

It's a 2010 model if that helps.

LCD display means Climatronic, which has the  electronic module instead of the resistor pack to control fan speed.

6Q2907521A for RHD car, much more expensive than the resistor version.

Not sure how to diagnose with certainty that this part is the problem, rather than the fan itself or even a sensor or the control unit. Climatronic has its own built in self-diagnostics - I believe - so maybe google or ask here how to run that and see if it can tell you anything useful.
