DMF Headache

Featured Replies

I know this has been done before, but driving down South yesterday, I joined the Motorway and had to 'boot it' on the sliproad which caused the dreaded vibration !

Then every time I approached 75mph it came back again, and again.

This lasted for a while whilst I tried to work out how to beat this. I then remembered what Shifty mentioned about 'driving through it'.

I reluctantly accelerated through 80 and sure enough it gradually vanished and hasn't returned since.

Do many of you get this (mapped cars) and if so, does 'driving through' the vibration harm the car at all ?

Jon.

I'm still on my standard (but machined down) DMF, and have no issues whatsoever with it. :)

How exactly does the DMF work ?

The vibration is very disconcerting and I wondered if it was 'meant' to do this.

Its a dampening thing to act between the clutch and the engine I think? Or gearbox and clutch. The exact mechanics of it are not 100% known to me. But when you get single mass flywheels, they vibrate & rattle when you have the clutch out and in neutral. Dual mass ones soak up that vibration, killing the noise. Why it would vibrate at 75mph only is unclear to me. I would have thought it would have vibrated under the same amount of engine strain, whatever the speed / gearing?

Is this the slightly odd rattling noise I get when I'm in neutral with the engine running? Don't get it in gear though.

Is it rev's related rather than speed, Before i got a new flywheel i was shuddering under full load at low revs (15-20k) over 2000rpm it was fine, never speed related

:iagree:

I experience exactly the same thing.

No, that's the tractor engine under the bonnet. ;):)

I know what you mean.

Some good stuff here about DMFs :D

Chris

I think i said drive around it, rather than through it. Ie - dont boot it below 2k.
