DANCE radio system frozen Skoda Fabia -09

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a Skoda Fabia from 2009. Today the radio system stopped working.

I am able to turn it on and off by pushing the volume button. But I can not choose any radio stations or adjust the volume. There is no sound coming at all.

And when I turn the headlights on, the radio screen does not go green and bright, it just stays dark and frozen.

Any suggestions for a solution? I have checked fuses 19 for radio and 50 for radio but both are good.

Change it for a android based unit made to fit VAG cars, there are loads of them for around 400 bucks.

Or go with a name brand that offers a drop in replacement thats double din, a modern headunit makes shame of the original ones.

As the great IT techs said... to some degree. Unplug it, leave it sit, plug it back in. Basically the equivalent of turning it off and on again, but with more force.

I've disconnected the battery, waited a while and connected it again, still no suvess. Will remove the whole radio unit and try that also.

Regarding replacing the radio unit with another DANCE model, 2nd hand. Would this be easy like plug and play or how does it work with the radio codes? Are the codes unique to the specific unit or?

Buy one with the code supplied. Otherwise you'll have to see a dealer or someone who is able to get the code from the stereo. I don't know your location (which you can add at the tab at the side, for other people's sake) so I can't say if local dealers will be able to help etc.

Alright thanks for the info! I'm from Sweden so I'll have a chat with the Skoda dealership and hear what they have to say.

Is the radio code stored separately from the unit or is there a way to get a hold of this if buying a 2nd hand one from scrapped cars etc.

Radio communicates with the ECU IIRC, if codes match, they work straight away. To get the radio code, see a dealer or an eBay person who can sort that for you.

i have changed mine for an after market one too but i had to get another harness for it then just plug them all in but with the dance radio, i could switch it on and off without the keys but with the after market radio, i cant do that, i have to start the car up for it to switch on.

I would also recommend updating to an Android unit for which you do not need to spend a large amount on top of a 2nd hand Dance - typ below - which will allow additional functions such as Sat Nav, storing music onboard instead of using CD's, DAB with units that can be connected via USB, Bluetooth for hands free, and even reversing camera's. Be aware that there are units with Windows CE as the operating system which appear to not offer the same options so possibly steer clear of these but not always easy to identify in advert spec. A facia may be required and addition wiring converter cable.

The one below does not mention operating system, but I would think Windows CE even while mentioning Android in the title - probably only Android phone connection.

Jesus, Windows CE. Haven't heard that one in a while!

Windows CE is terrible !!..............

Still no luck with the dance radio. And costs of another dance radio + dealership coding is not something I'm looking forward to.

Does anyone have good recommendations on aftermarket alternative? Just something that can connect with wiring easily and fit into the frame neatly. Doesn't matter if double din or single and all the fancy features. Just something that works. It's a regular Skoda Fabia.

The wring is standard on almost all radios, you just need a extra VW / VAG ISO harness, all car stereo dealers have them. Then its just plug and play.

So I'm needing to fix the live wire for an aftermarket stereo. Does anyone have recommendation for which fuse to tap into?

I'll be using a fuse bypass, attached below. Also fuse diagram attached below. p372497_900_900.thumb.jpg.3efb234baa08489799fe1e993bad7811.jpg

i copied this quote from someone on here:

I just used a piggy back fuse on the rear wiper fuse (sorry cannot remember fuse number) and ran the wire up to the power lead so that the radio cannot be powered up with ign 'off'.

No need, constant 12v is the yellow wire in the harness and the red is the ignition sensing 12v (maaaybe other way around). No need to mess with that if you get a VW to ISO harness or VW to applicable radio harness.
