Standard octavia on 17" wheels

Featured Replies

Hi guys I'm wondering if any one has pictures of a standard mk2 octavia on 17" Wheels? I currently have a set of 16" spectrum wheels on but I'm unsure if the car will sit too high on 17" wheels?

Hi, it shouldn't make so much difference that would be obvious to the casual eye - the larger wheel will be fitted with lower-profile tyre (smaller sidewall) resulting in very similar actual tyre diameter.

I'm hoping there wouldn't be but will it sit any higher ad I'm looking to fit a set of 17" pegasus rims and don't want to be fitting lowering springs as I can't be bothered with the harsher ride the springs can bring.

If I remember correctly, the Octavia should take 205/55 r16 or 225/45 r17.

That'll give a theoretical 1.2mm ride height increase. I would be amazed if anyone would notice that... You'll see a bigger difference going from old to new tyres!

The suspension doesn't change depending on wheel size so it'll look completely stock and normal.

I'm sorry, but if you do it right, it cannot be the case that it will sit appreciably higher.

If it did, the gear ratios and speedo reading would change. Ok, they will, a bit, but it'll be so small that you won't notice.

If you go to the kind of site that allows you to compare the rolling radius of tyres, you'll be able to check that this is the case for your target set of tyres, and this should be pretty small.

(The tyre sizes that are the best value for money, in terms of purchase price, are the ones that are in volume usage, and those are often the ones that have pressures listed in the fuel filler cap, because they are the standard fit ones.)

Put your current tyre size into this https://tiresize.com/tyre-size-calculator/ and it will tell you what 17" tyre sizes will give you the same rolling circumference to ensure the speedo & ABS work correctly

I've a 2007 Laurin and Klement with 17" wheels while earlier models had 16" as long as you fit the correct tyre which is 225/45/17 on the 17" wheels you will be fine .... Having said that you might find the ride a bit harsh as it took me ages to get used to mines, I did come from a long line of Citroen's with hydraulic suspension though

17" Pegasus are on my L&K with factory sports/lowered suspension.

Wheel size is configurable via OBD, presumably for speedometer.

Personally I'd prefer smaller wheels with higher profile tyres given the state of the roads, more comfortable with fewer broken springs.

Don't you have the different wheel size and tyre options listed on the inside of your fuel flap?

I'm changing the wheels on my Superb from 17" 225/45 down to 16" 205/55. There is just over 1mm difference in the rolling diameter of the wheels.
