Unwanted Attention

Featured Replies

Does anyone elses Octy/Fabia vRS attract alot of unwanted attention?

I just drove down to my local mcdonalds which also happens to be near the local bowling lane and cinema, on my way back pulling up to the lights there is another octy vRS with a young asian lad at the wheel with his dolled up girlfriend as soon as i appear he begins jerking forward rolling back and revving the tits off his car.

After dealing with that moron literally 2 minutes later i have a polo up my **** and a fiesta to my right both with crappy lexus style lights and huge exhaust giving it some on a dual carraigeway. Cutting me up and trying to get me to react.

Does anyone else have this trouble or is it just because people think a 22 year old in an octy vRS means a race?

I think i am going to borrow a high vis vest from work and put it on with a white shirt and do the same journey. See what happens then :D

Im a 21 year old with an octy vrs, not had it long, but not had any real problems either, may just be where i drive mine though.

Never had a problem with my modified Fabia vRS.

But huge problems with my new car

had the Fabia VRS 2 weeks and It's amazing how many idiots get right up close to the rear bumper. Never happened in my clio 1.2.

Today came to traffic light and I was in the left lane. A guy in a daewoo came up to the right of me so that he could overtake me. The stretch of raod was uphill and merged to one lane 300yrds up the road. The Green lights went on and he revved the tits off of it.I simply set off slowly in 1st and then into 2nd and I was passed. Not sure what he wanted to do? it's seemed like after 1st gear he gave up. it was strange. maybe he was trying to get a reaction?

Its those kind of places.. cinemas etc. It attracts them! for some reason people think driving around a car park is the dogs!

Its the first time it had happened..

Yep - I get them too. :thumbdwn: :grumpy:

Depending on the circumstances / road type / weather I will either ignore it entirely or give some beans and leave them in a cloud of soot. Both options work well and are satisfying enough for me.... although the soot cloud is a little bit more satisfying.

Careful with the yellow vest idea - it has been known to have been classified as impersonating a police officer!

Really.. i would just say i am on my way home from work, and that is what i have to wear

Traffic cops hat, get them on Ebay, place on rear shelf, works a treat if it gets noticed.

An extra ariel and driv everywhere at 10 mph below NSL and people will give you a miss...

Other than that just ignore them - even the most intellectually challenged ch@v will know who has the nicer car and if you dont rise to bait (waste fuel etc) they will get bored, go home and return Mum's shopping car... :)

Yes. It happens a lot. More than every other car I've had. My mate says its because people cant stand being overtaken by a Skoda.

I do this too! Leaving them behind in a cloud of soot is very satisfying, as it not reacting at all!

Post test-drive experience with the Fabia vRS I got the dealer to take the vRS badge of the rear of the car before I collected it (new).

During the test drive(s) I had several instances where racers were involved.

Sure my car is a tad tweaked etc but i can't be bothered most of the time, and it's just another point that SWMBO could complain about when she's in the car, so it was a good way of getting away from it :)

Not everybody knows that the vRS (either) is genuinely fast. They see a Skoda with alloys, a spoiler and chrome tailpipe and assume it's just been tarted up, so they reckon they can have a go.

Yea i had this last night. Ive only just got the dang thing and had some muppet in an accord right up my a$$ having a go then later on some other muppet in an S40.

I wouldnt mind but i was only out for a quite drive getting used to me new car

If somebody is trying it on with me in a car which is obviously waaaay slower (most of them) I tend to drive normally along straights, but at a slightly increased paced so they can't get past, then slow right down for corners etc, and then accelerate away just slightly faster than they can. Winds them up a treat...

After a few miles of that, just when they are being to think you drive like a girl and the car isn't that fast, give it death for a few seconds to open a gap on them and they get the message and give up!

Had it quite a few times with my old 1.4 16V, some people got very, very upset at how quick it was :D but on the whole I got left alone.

Sometimes get it with my current SDI, usually from drivers of things like Golfs and Passats with a 110 engine. Just because they get turned over by the 130 and 150 engined versions of their cars they think it OK to have a go at a humble SDI :grumpy:

Look on their face when they catch up is usually very amusing

But put the boot on the other foot ... if a 911, Ferarri or Lambo pulled up alongside you, you'd have a go wouldn't you? I know I would because I love seeing and hearing a performance car being driven properly :D

Chris

Oh and strange as it may seem, I've had a few Fabia vRSs trying to show me just how fast their car is compared to my humble SDI, normally on the M1. They come up behind me while I'm in a string of traffic and try to get their car in to the Octavia's very substantial boot. They want to show me that I could have bought one of their rocket ships rather than my taxi :grumpy:

They usually try twice as they thing they must have been in the wrong gear the first time  After that they usually leave a sensible distance and don't try to harrass me :thumpup

Are you sure that's not just down to the inadequacy of the standard brakes? ;)

Rob.

Good point Rob, although they may well have faulty steering too judging by the weaving and a pronounced pull to the right from how they try to get between the outside lane and the armco

I've had 5 or 6 do it to me now on the M1 so you may well be right.

All the Fabia drivers around here are too chicken to try it on with my humble Octavia Elegance :(

Perhaps they've seen the video ?

Even my humble 110TDi gets some attention from the local idiots. Think some of them must think it's a GTi knock off or something :S. THe only person I have had driving on my rear bumper that I couldn't shake was a Golf comming off the m27. Saying that it was a GT TDI so I think he is allowed to shoot past. Damn quick that thing is.

I'd have a go :D

The most attention i ever get is from other VWAG drivers. i.e. golfs, audis, who just want to fly past the skoda to justify spending an extra
