Xenons Adjustment on vRS

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've driven the car into work tonight..... It's the first time i'd driven the car on the motorway at night since we got it a couple of weeks ago. Now i know there has been mention of the xenons being set slightly too low from the factory and after driving on the motorway tonight i reckon mine are defo too low..... Possibly the drivers side more than the passenger side. Is there anybody out there who has had the car back to the dealer to have this corrected, And if so was it a job they did while you waited or did you leave the car with them for the day??? I only ask cos the dealer is about 30-odd miles away so i need to know whether to book a courtesy car or whether i should be trying to get them to do it while i wait.

Also another option, i assume, would be to find someone on here who lives near-by and has vag-com and adjust it ourselves........ Is it an easy task or should i just go with the dealer???

Cheers

Dave.

You can get someone with VAG-CoM but its hard to get them right. I did this with Eddy's in Pontefract, but they were way out!

Take it to the dealer and tell them they are too low and they will adjust them for you. Tell them you want them to be set to the 'legal limit'. They did this on mine and they are now perfect!. They also changed the sidelight bulbs to HID lookalike bulbs and the H7's to Osram Silverstars free of charge. (I provided the bulbs courtesy of e bay)The headlights have to come out to replace these. Good luck!

It's an easy task with Vag-Com and a 6mm Allen key. You just need to remember to get the system to learn the new settings once you have made the adjustment.

Well worth doing: transforms the lights.

Where's the adjuster?

didnt Josh mention something about the sensors on the rear axles. You can adjust it to increase the maxium height. I always found the max height is not high enough.

Ah, that's front nearside, goes from the wishbone to the wheel arch. 10mm nut on a slider.

Thanks for the info chaps................

Phoned the dealer just now and they've booked me in for next Thursday @ 2pm..... They're gonna do it while i wait as i'm having to travel down from Sheffield to Mansfield..... They're also gonna replace the gearknob which has got the plastic layer coming away and leaving a bare metal section!!!!!

Cheers

Dave.

Result!

Wish mine could be done under warranty  If I were you- because you're not local to the dealers, I'd ask to see the light's beam on the testing rig or whatever it is they use. You dont wanna be having to go back because theyre still too low ;)

Alright!!!...mine aren't :finger:;)

Im not too bothered now its summer but even so, I think I'll go back to the dealers and this time pay to get them adjusted. Somehow I bet they'll be right.

Alright!!!...mine aren't

 Why the aggression Dave?

Tell them they need adjusting properly. It should not cost you a penny!!

 Stay calm as well:thumbup:

I wasn't being aggressive. Hence the ;) after the :finger:

:D

They were supposed to be adjusted whilst having the first service but I was told they were on the MOT level limit. If the MOT states the lights must shine no more than 3 or 4 metres away from the car, then fair enough! I cant be arsed messing about- so i'll pay them to adjust the lights above that level (or to the level they should be at  )

To be honest mine are lighting up about 5-10 yards in front of the car....... Now this seems to be a lot better than yours Dave butstill seems to be less than the Civic & Polo headlights...... I'll still take it down and let 'em have a look it may be that they are just slightly out etc.....

You didnt start anything :D Its just me being aggressive, apparently!

I think the lights on mine used to be like yours, but it got alot worse after lowering the car...one of the reasons why they would frown upon doing it as a warranty job.

Well.......... Went to the dealers today. Went to the service desk and told them what was reqd. at which point the guy asks if they are halogens or xenons. Then he starts the old 'ooooh it's not a normal job to adjust the xenons etc, etc, etc.....' I tell him i know what needs doing to adjust them and that numerous other Furby vRS owners have had to have them adjusted etc. So he says ok but if they find they are all setup as they should be they'll charge me to which i agree to keep him quiet.

40 mins later another lad comes out and tells me that all seems to be setup ok with the lights and starts to explain that the vag-com shows the country setting to be code 10 which is the UK code.... I then explain that i wasn't questioning what the code was etc.... but had they had the car on the MOT test rig.....'What do you mean?' he asks so i go through the whole can you check the level on the MOT test rig and then adjust them UP to the UK legal limit etc...... 'Ooooh yeah we've done that and it's all ok' at which point he then goes back to where the car is in the workshop...... My thought at this point was to just take the car to my local MOT garage for a second opinion on the lights etc.....

I wait another 10 mins at least at which point the chap who originally told me i'd have to pay if they hadn't dome anything comes over gives me my keys back and says all sorted see ya later............

Low & behold tonight on the way to work i find that the beam is miraculously reaching further than it was!!!!!

Why oh why won't dealers ever admit to being wrong and actually say they've done something when they have instead of saying everything is ok.

Sorry about the long post but thought i'd put a finishing resolution to the thread.

Cheers

Dave.

Cheers for the update, I always like to read how things pan out. It seems you've got it solved now though which is good.

Lights should be checked and adjusted on an inspection service.

It's one of the reasons I changed dealership twice (!!) now as BOTH Skoda dealers near where I live manage to make the adjustment downward over and over again, which means I have to waste days not being able to see anything PLUS find time to get back to the dealership.

Fortunately the last service was carried out by a dealership that either didnt mess with the lights OR did it properly. Either way, that's my preference :D

Considering the VW dealership that (correctly) serviced my car at 40k recently was also cheaper by over a hundred quid for the same service, I reckon it won't be going back into the Skud dealerships nearby...
