Another Yeti replacement question Kia Niro??

 Hi all,

 

...still looking to change the Yeti. Recently had a test drive in the new Toyota Yaris cross which seemed to tick most boxes compared to all the other cars I have tried. Only problem being  22 week lead time.

 

Another option that has just popped onto my radar via a good Which report is the Kia Nero. (Would probably go for the self charge hybrid variant). Just wondering if anybody else has gone that route and what are your thoughts?

I keep looking at the Niro or a soul to replace the our yeti. The full electric version though.

As Tony says, yes I've gone down that route.

Bought a self charging Niro 2 in July 2020 and have now done 30k miles in it, and we are very happy with our choice.

Lots of toys even on the base model we bought, some of which I like, some I don't. The thing I hate most is the Lane Keeper Assistance, which I have to swtich off everytime I start the car. It is probably effective if you do lots of motorway miles but on the lanes around here keeps getting in the way as it is confused by white lines on both sides of the road. Addaptive cruise control is really good. Auto lights and wipers as good as on the Yeti but I'm not so sure about the automatic main beam as it seems a bit slow sometimes. Miss the rearwiper not automatically wiping the rear screen, and the fact that I don't have headlight washers.

Handling isn't as good as the Yeti but since I don't drive it like a sports car it is more than adequate for my needs. Ride is supple and more forgiving that the Yeti, but I purposely bought a 2 level as it comes on 16" wheels and tyres, whereas the higher spec models get 18" wheels and tyres. Boot room is greater than the Yeti but internal storage not quite as good.

Fuel consumotion is excellent! Because I do voluntary patient transport for the Welsh Ambulance Service I keep a spread sheet of all my fuel consumption and costs and even allowing for around 1500 miles towing a 1100kg caravan my consumption has averaged out at 58mpg. Towing the caravan I get 30mpg, and even in the winter I can easily exceed 60mpg solo.

Remember there is a brand new Niro announced and due for sale summer/autumn 2022. Should either get a very good deal on existing models or get in first to buy the new model.

I, like you, am still pondering what to get to replace my Yeti. So far I haven’t found anything which ticks all the boxes but Mk2 VW T-Roc seems a possible alternative as does the new Honda HR-V hybrid. Some questions as to engine noise under acceleration with the HR-V so I am waiting for a long road test to find out for myself. Similarly waiting for Mk2 T-Rocs to be available for test drive, T-Roc is said to be one of the most comfortable cars in it's class with smooth ride and a particularly quiet refined ride. Possibly the 1.5 DSG Style model might do.
