I would try and get a road test in a Kodiaq pretty much identical to yours to compare.

 

+1.   Before approaching the service desk with your grumpy face on, first make sure it's not a common problem. If both cars drive differently, then you can ask the service desk why so.

@roottoot Yeah I think that’s a plan. Need to work out a route to drive too and try and replicated some of last weeks roads. 
 

My previous was a 68 plate Velar and prior to that all LR’s - Disco 3,4,5 and a Disco Sport. So new the VAG stable TBH.

I think you're experiencing exactly the same as I do in my vRS. The problem isn't one of power - it's the crappy fly-by-wire throttle and the response (or lack thereof) built into it. Not only is there an appreciable delay in any response, but it also appears to be a curved response - i.e. something like throttle/power mappings of 25%/10% 50%/30% 75%/60% 100%/100% (I'm not claiming that to be precise, just to illustrate what I mean). The 'tuning' of the gearbox isn't particular brilliant either, but it's not the main cause of the issue.

 

I am led to believe that a pedal box can overcome some/most of the issue by changing the response to be a little more linear and predictable. I have also seen things to 'flash' the gearbox with a different 'tune' to make it better. I have tried neither of these options, but I may be tempted at some point.

 

Edit: It's worth noting that VAG use the same systems/gearboxes across different marques - but you'll find Audi has more 'sporty' and 'responsive' mappings for the throttles and gearboxes. It's part of how they differentiate whilst still using the same parts.

In Sport it still can't decide what gear to be in but does sort it self out more quickly. Again it does kick down more readily than when in Drive but still mostly after the apex and after I've pushed the accelerator... so still quite a delayed reaction.

 

In Sport of course it holds the rev longer so we end up with the engine at high revs for quite a while until it realises I am no longer accelerating.

When you say you’re using sports mode is this DSG sport mode by pulling back on gear selector, or are you changing driving mode to sport?

This all makes sense sir, many thanks. I too have looked around (after recommends here) at peddle boxes and gearbox mapping options. If the car was out of warranty and my insurer was OK with it, then I would go for one for sure. I will probably start looking to change the car (maybe a newer MY Kodiaq) in about a years time in any case - but we'll see.

Flicking gear lever to go into Sport mode - stiffer steering and a 'more responsive' gear box. The driving modes allow me to select the options that are the same as when flicking into Sport, but would leave them permanently on... so not sure it's actually any different to just using the gear lever to flip between Sport and Drive.

Using the sport function on the gear selector only puts the gearbox into sport mode, selecting sport mode using the drive mode button changes other parameters.

My steering gets heavier when I flick to Sports mode using the gearbox. The driving mode settings allow you to select the different options, i.e. sportier gearbox, but no change in steering response etc. Would make no sense to have Sport selected by gearbox just do one change and not all of the Sport mode changes.

Yeah, but it definitely does something more than just the gearbox - on the VRS it turns the *%$^$* sound actuator on as well, which is more than a little annoying.

Yes, as you haven't changed the Drive Mode using the Mode button or menu item, so it will still show as being in Normal, the the car will effectively be in Sport Mode though by using the gear lever and change the gearbox, steering and adaptive suspension settings (if you have that fitted).

I recognize it's all expense, but when you're down a VRS anyway...  get an ODB11 dongle and turned the sound actor down (or off) to your preference.
