Skoda octavia 1.4 tsi oil pressure low engine off owners manual fault

Featured Replies

Hi

I have skoda 1.4 tsi .

Last year it went for routine service .they changed all filters, oil and spark plug .

When I went to pick up the car .as soon  as I drove off from garage .oil pressure low light comes up .

I went back into the garage .

They looked everything.

They changed switch check all wiring .

They changed oil pump as well.no blockage found .

But error is still there .

On driving its as normal .

No engine Heat up or losss of power.

When I start my car in morning no error until car temperature goes normal they every few minutes you get error on speedometer .

If you are on motorway and going on 70 mph then there is no error.

It's only comes up when I drive on low speed .

Like a said on driving the car on daily basis its normal no loss of power or anything.

I have no idea. I have been to many garage They couldn't find problem or don't want to check because its worth looking for them.time consuming.

I have been told by some garage just get the new engine .its the easy way .

Some say its crankshaft wear .

Or some say crankshaft valve .

Some say turbo charger or some say timing chain .or engine ecu computer.

I can't change all these to experiment and finds out problem is still there .

Anyone have same problem let me know which garage fixed your problem so I can go to that garage and have it fixed .

@Raj143Welcome.

??

Did they really look everywhere, and actually check the most basic of things since an Oil & Filter change was done?

**Has the OIl filter been changed or checked since last year when it was changed?**

Did someone fitting the new filter then forget to remove a seal and then cause the Low Oil Pressure warning ?

Needs checked to see if 'Operator error',

and the person that did the service was the operator.

Hi

Thanks for your reply .

I will have them air filters and oil filter looked at again today and I will let you know if that was the issue .

Oil filter and engine oil just changed 3 days ago when my garage changed oil pump and seal sump they thought that could solve problem but not .

I will have then change air and oil filter changed today again just in case if that solve problem.

Air filter is irrelevant.

Hi

Thanks for reply .

Someone told me check the spark plugs .sometimes garage machenic have not  done proper job .does that cause low pressure oil problem.

Or change oil garde I use 5w30 so I try 5w40 or add stp oil additive to try fix problem.any suggestions

Spark plugs also irrelevant.

After checking for mistakes with oil filter: Get the garage to fully warm up the engine, remove the oil pressure switch, fit a pressure gauge there and see what the pressure reads at a steady 2000rpm.

Is it a CAXA engine? (code may be found. at start of engine number on V5c document, and on sticker in boot near spare wheel well). If it is, I think minimum pressure at that engine speed needs to be 2 bar.

Changing oil type may help, but additives not recommended.

Yes its unfortunately caxa engine .

After changing pump ,engine oil and oil filter they check oil pressure like you said it with gage it was low not as recommended.gargae suggest small leak inside engine ring or valve .i already spent a lot money on that .only pump replace job was 600 pounds .but I am driving it for last 3 days drive as normal with new pump and engine oil Been changed car runs smooth and when I start car in morning I can hear some rattle noses from engine  soon its heats up no nose .sounds like hybrid car can't even here it all.

Running it since the issue first occured has not been good for the engine if it was as simple as someone fitting the oil filter wrongly.

Double post.

Car was running as normal no issue other than warning lights .I have to commute to work 10 miles each side so total 20 miles a day .I have no option other than use car as it is .because I cannot leave car at the garage for weeks .

Every now and than I have it checked by different garages.

At the moment I have been to 5 garages in Manchester.

None of them can solve problem all of them says change engine .

It's 1000 pounds for a engine and 700 to put it in car .

So skoda is worst car ever for me .I might have to break it parts and sells all parts to get some money back and buy a new car instead.

If your car was find pre that service then there might lay the issue.  Sorry but I think you need a competent mechanic on the job.

  • Author

Yes it was fine before that service .no error at all.

Yes do need competent mechanic.

I even contact skoda they are 115 pounds plus vat am hour labour for Any fix .for them that will be over 2000 pounds job.

.if anyone have same problem and their local garage fixed it let me know I will drive down there book a hotel stay there for 2 or 3 days in hotel while they are fixing my car .

Have you actually tried changing to 5w40 because I think it could be that easy since you only got the issue after a service, do you know what grade oil has been used for previous servicing?

How many miles has the car done?

Search google for VW specialist (not main dealer) in your area.

Oh no, that's annoying.

Better than a lot of other outcomes though, I guess.

So was it the oil pressure switch that was changed that fixed the error & you put in fresh oil & changed the filter?

I don't understand how an oil filter can be wrong.

No I did not change oil . I just change filter and error is gone .it was wrong filter fitted and nobody thought that could be  the issue. You guys point that out for me .engine oil was changed when they changed oil pump even that garage don't even bother to change filter .

I am going to go to that garage and tell them if next time somebody come around with low oil pressure. It will be good idea to change only filter and switch first then open sump .might save money for car owner  .your guys are great .thanks again for your time and help  I really appreciate it

You did post earlier that they had changed the oil filter after the issue of the low oil pressure warning first happened.   The issue with professionals is that customers need to ask ask and ask again what they do and still might not be told what was checked.    Good that easily resolved, but a shame it has cost money unnecessarily.

Sorry, a bit late to this thread - oil filter variants on the CAXA engine were mentioned in an earlier thread linked here.  Picture shows the 2 types have a different  seal to the engine.

A 2012 car will be the later type (right in picture) and it certainly appears that if the left hand type was fitted there wouldn't be a good seal.

Very good result. Shame about the likely unnecessary replacements! But move on I guess..... Maybe worth a few words with the garage that carried out the work asking are they aware of the 2 different filters for different engine mfr dates!! A rebate of some / part /  all costs???

  • 2 years later...
