Service plans - worth it and are they all that's required?

Featured Replies

I'm being bombarded by Skoda to buy a 2 or 3 year plan currently at 20% off. They seem to be be missing things like dsg oil and filter change and spark plugs are excluded. I tried asking škoda for a service schedule for fixed interval for my superb 2020 190 2.0 tsi but just got directed back to the plans. Are they all that is needed to follow manufactures schedule or to you have to buy more.....? How could i get  a service schedule?

TIA

A Service Plan needs looked at to see if it is just Oil & Inspection Services and then Extended Scope because that is not to Manufacturers Recommendations.

THERE WERE DIFFERENT GRADES/ LEVELS OF SERVICE PLANS AVAILABLE.

See 'SKODA BESPOKE PLANS.'

https://skoda.co.uk/owners/bespoke-plans

https://skoda.co.uk/owners/servicing-maintenance-offers

So Brake fluid at 3 years and each 2 years.

Pollen Filter @ 2 years.

Haldex or VAQ @ 3 years / 30,000.

DSG Oil change @ 40,000 miles.

Air Filter, Spark Plugs are extras, AC is extra.                So you need to look at what you want doing and when and what is or is not included.

Scroll down for what they now call a 'Schedule' but they never used to and many Skoda Approved cars are not serviced to the Recommendations because they had been on a 'Service Plan' / Fleet Servicing.

DSG is at 40,000 miles, or with some 80,000 miles, not @4 years as looks like here.

Thank you for this. Why are Skoda uk so evasive? I thought it was a simple question. Then again I've never dealt with a main s dealer before.... So you buy a service plan and oh low and behold there are loads of things needing to be done to keep your warranty that you have to pay for and also a long list of exclusions. £105 for spark plugs....

Still £105 if the car has a 3 cylinder engine.    (So is it profit and VAT equalled out, some get 3 plugs, some get 4 and the same charge is made!)

The price of the Air & Pollen filters certainly allow a nice profit considering you are paying for a Oil & Inspection Service and maybe Extended Scope.

If they were actually 'Inspecting' an Air Filter it takes no extra time taking out the old one and putting in the new one.

Air and pollen filters are included in the service plan at the 'extended scope' service, had mine done last week.

@D402 Can i ask how much that plan is costing you?

& at what age of car and at how many miles is your car now?

What servicing was previously done pre Extended scope and oil and inspection service?  Extended Scope comes up every 3 years.   So would pollen and air filter get changed on all 3 year old petrol cars if the had a service plan?   That is not to Skoda / VW recommendations or schedule.    The pollen filter is due at 2 years.  The air filter would be at the 2nd Extended Scope so at 6 years, maybe 60,000 miles.

Can i ask how much that plan is costing you? It was a Black Friday 2020 deal at £12.75 per month for 24 months consisting of one oil service and one extended scope with air and pollen filters included

& at what age of car and at how many miles is your car now? The car is 4.5 years old and coming up to 39000 miles

What servicing was previously done pre Extended scope and oil and inspection service? I've had the car from new, leased for the first two years on another Black Friday deal. Being leased, it was on variable servicing to start with and had its first oil service when the car requested it at 18000 miles and 18 months old. Covid meant I started working from home and hardly used the car. It was a relief when the car requested another oil service in April 2021 at 34000 miles and this was done on the service plan. The service interval must have been reset to annual servicing hence the recent service.

Looks like the service plan gives you more than the service schedule requires and I guess they've done the extended scope service with the filters early as this is included. I'm not complaining as I feel the car has been serviced appropriately for the use it's had.

The next question for me is when and where to have the cambelt changed...

Thanks.

24 x £12.75 =£306

Oil & Inspection service x 2 £370.

Extended Scope £60

Air Filter £45

Pollen Filter £35

Total  £510, but that is crazy prices.

Brake Fluid if not changed should at least be tested for H20 content.

@ 5 years old by Skoda Recommendations the 2nd Brake Fluid change is due.         So appropriate servicing should mean it at least gets tested.

I went into a 2 year plan when I bought the car, which seems to fit with year 3 being an extended scope, as my two year plan is oil and inspection.

I'm paying £16.50 per month on direct debit over the two years, which equates to £198 per year. So, going off the blue table above you could say in theory I am over-paying by £13 (OMG how will I manage?) but in reality I took the 2 year package precisely so I don't have to pull out the full amount in one go in both years...particularly useful if 'extras' are identified as required, my bill will already be minus the £198 already paid.

And irrespective of whatever a schedule may say, i.e. suggested as only starting in year 3 or not, I would never ever let a 12 month period pass without a full oil change on any car irrespective of condition or age anyway.

As I have said before on this forum, I find a service schedule and service plan can only ever be 'worthwhile' to each individual owner's car, desires, circumstances etc anyway. Some folk don't ever service their cars for years and don't care, and their cars don't suffer!

That's not for me though...
