Subwoofer solution in Superb iV (hybrid) with Canton

I just bought a 2022 Superb iV (hybrid) and as many here I am hugely disappointed with the Canton sound system. I would send you a PM about the adapter cable @spacelord , but since I am new here on the forum I first have to earn 20 points to do so. Where is the subwoofer?

Thank you for the video.

I did it! Take out the connector, turn it around, file down the tabs, plug it in again. 5 minutes work makes a whole lot of difference for the sound.

Just to think that the previous owner drove this car for 169.000km without this 5 minutes fix 😂

In my opinion, the sound is quite good even without this change. Curious to compare it after

You will hear the difference. Suddenly there is bass!

Hey guys, sorry missed your postings as I'm very rare in this forum.

Great to see you applied the solution. The connectors are for those who don't want to modify anything irreversible or mess around with pins.

WOW......Skoda have really gone cheap and downgraded the sub in the Canton system for the facelift Superb!!!

no wonder many peeps of the facelift Superb r not impressed with Canton system.

the pre-facelift occupies the entire storage cubby space on the left of the boot, and is ported into the chassis frame, so u can feel a nice deep and solid base from the sub-woofer.

The topic is about hybrid. It's another solution

This is probably one of those rare times when I registered on a forum just to say thank you to the person who came up with the idea of flipping the connector. It’s just freaking incredible! In two minutes, the sound in my Superb iV completely changed. I don’t even know what to say. I stumbled upon this forum by accident while looking for ways to improve the stock audio. Thanks again!

@spacelord thank you for the time you have taken to share the cause & fix of this major issue with us!

Wasn't impressed with the sound system since I bought the car (1-2 months ago), but this has solved it completely! Also thanks for the equalizer settings. I was slightly hesitant to change the connector because the car still has warranty, but I can confirm it works on my 2021 Superb iV (German car originally).

I really enjoy the sound now, you've made my day!

Have I stumbled on my problem? New-to-me 2021 iV L&K Estate here. I'm finding that the melodic sounds and voices aren't coming through, everything is mushed together.

Just tried to balance using a pink noise and a spectrum app on my phone, and then again with a few songs - and in order to get anything like the right curves, everything is becoming dull. The richness and "pop" of the sound is just gone.

And I noticed that no matter what I do, I cannot get the 30hz sounds to come up at all - seems that in bumping the bass, I'm losing fidelity everywhere else.

Is that the problem others are having?

Am I explaining this right? I have no idea what I'm talking about, I've just spent an hour talking to Chatgpt as this isn't something I've ever played with - its only because I was so disappointed with the Caton system that I specifically wanted the L&K model for.

Will flipping this plug let me turn the bass down, and in-so-doing, let me bring everything else back to life?

I can't PM OP, but I'll try to tag here @spacelord as it seems you haven't posted for a few weeks and I don't want to wait for better sounds, as I'm about to go on a very long road trip! Sorry!!!

I'm not a sound specialist but seeing all iV models with Canton have this issue... Just try it.

I'm certainly no specialist either - Spent my whole life looking at equalisers on proper hifi systems and only really knocking the treble up for the 90's eurodance I used to listen to!!! :)

I'm going to get out with a dremel cutter tomorrow if I can and try it. Can't hurt, right?

Update from me and my 2021 L&K iV

My plug didn't have those lugs on it. It could be freely fitted either way, and there was only a minor difference in each direction. We had to switch it 4-5 times to decide which was best, it certainly wasn't an "instantly amazing" thing.

However, I think changed the actual settings on the screen to match the first post, and moving the focus to the front seems to have made a massive difference. I don't know how OP came up with that idea, but changing from back to front makes such a difference to the sound, its really surprising.

One more update. Seems the issue is catching...

Thank you @spacelord .

I swapped (down) from an MY2020 A6 C8 where the standard system was loads better.

I wanted to try and get the same type of options which i sent off with my Audi and i opted to go for the MY2022 L&K Superb IV with the Canton audio "upgrade".

Severely disappointed in the audio, but otherwise happy with the car (aside from the comfort and normal suspension setting that has WAY too much rebound on the front).

Started to look around for 3rd party solutions and these would run into the 1000's for what i wanted to reflect the former A6 experience.

Just by due diligence, i stumbled on this post from a YT video (which i will link below).

It really is weird that Canton/Skoda recalled the original owners for this obvious factory mistake of the pinning of the plug.

Anyway, a huge thank you to Spacelord yet again and now that the bass is so present in the cabin, i need to do some research in soundproofing the doors as now there is boat loads of reverberation and resonance thru the doorpanels and the boot covers.

Superb IV hybrid Canton sound system fix

  • 4 weeks later...

Dear All,

What about the same poor canton sound in Superb iV Combi, 4th generation? Could it be something similar?

Well...did you try to see if it has the same connections and if so, did switching the connection upside down do anything?

You are better equipped to answer your own question

Hi!

Anyone who knows if this still is a problem in newer cars? I will soon get my 2026 from a dealer.

there is a definite improvement in the overall sound quality.  The sound is richer and warmer, with more detail across the sound spectrum.

Sorry? The was achieved just by reversing the polarity of the sub?

Yes, however this "fix" only applies for the Superb 3 facelift WITH the Canton system.

And it only applies to the hybrid motorized car (1.4 iV) versions!

So the connection to the sub, or the sub itself is different in earlier cars?
