Glove Box

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me how to disconnect the glove box so I can access the fuses?

I would have thought that if you have to remove the glovebox to access fuses, that it would be in the handbook/manual.  It definitely is for the Octy III.

There is a mention in the manual that says loosen the brake rod of the glove box but no instructions on how to do it. I was fearful of breaking it when I tried to loosen it. It was really secure. I tried to prise it off but gave up.

Same as Mk7 golf as far as the rod goes

Thanks for that I was able to disconnect the rod but the glove box wouldn’t drop down enough for me to access the fuses. I want to take out the fuse for the infotainment system as it keeps dialling sos!

If you look at the top corners there's two button sort of things that you have to press (in or to the side, I forget) which release the glovebox.

Actually the answer is in the second image above that @inspectorman posted - push the two lugs sideways and away from the glovebox and it will just drop down

On the Octavia IV the lugs are concealed at the sides of the glove box and NOT part of glove box itself. They need a firm sideways push using a screwdriver or similar. Almost as though they were designed to resist discovery! A torch helps to locate them.

You’ll also need some sort of rod to push against them - not really accessible for fingers. I used a ballpoint pen.

Having done that on both sides, the compartment will drop down, and the “brake rod” (which is on the right hand side) will fall out. When you put it back in for reassembly, the side with the cog teeth faces out from the compartment (ie so that you can see it) and the round end is at the bottom. Make sure the round end is outside the compartment as it can sit either way, then pull it down and towards the front of the car. At this point it should be obvious how it slips in to a fastener and clicks in to position with a slight pull to the back of the car.

Dreadful design for something you may need to get at on the road.
